Dawon of Cosmic Girls has achieved her solo debut after 9 years. On September 9, she released her 1st digital single 'gonna love me, right?' through various music distribution sites. 'gonna love me, right?' is a work that incorporates the story that Dawon wants to convey, from music to concept. She participated in planning, lyrics, composition, and overall production, building her own musical world. While showing her way of loving herself, she also conveys messages of love and self-confidence to listeners. This single includes three songs: the title track 'body', the track 'number one rockstar', and 'marry me', which she participated in writing and composing. The title track 'body' is a rhythmic pop dance track reminiscent of the heat of a summer night and the straightforward intuition of falling in love. The punchy beat and addictive hook create a groove that, combined with Dawon's refreshing vocals, evokes the end of summer. Not only in vocals but also in rap and performance, Dawon hints at a bold transformation, showcasing high-quality music and enhancing audiovisual satisfaction. -- After about 9 years since her debut, how do you feel about your solo debut? Dawon: I can't believe it's already my 10th year since debut. I think the experiences I've built up performing on stage with the members of Cosmic Girls have shaped who I am today. Therefore, this solo debut is not just my achievement alone, but a culmination of the time spent together and the support from fans. Since it's a dream I've held in my heart for a long time, I believe the weight of these 9 years makes this work even more special. I've poured my sincerity, growth, and feelings I want to convey to my fans into this, so please look forward to it! -- What part did you focus on the most and where did you put in the most effort for your solo debut? Dawon: This solo debut is not just about releasing a work, but a stage to firmly show the color of artist Dawon. Therefore, I tried many new things from music work to styling, performance, and stage direction. I participated in parts I could and shared my opinions to not miss any details, so I've spent more time and energy on it, allowing me to confidently present a work to my fans without regrets. I feel the most fulfilled and happy about that. -- You planned and participated in the production of this work, but what message does 'gonna love me, right?' convey? Dawon: The message I wanted to incorporate throughout the album is 'confidence' and 'love'. It’s a work that asks, 'You will love me, right? Right?' while boldly stating, 'You will come to love me!' Through this work, I wanted to give myself courage and hope that listeners will love themselves more and gain confidence. Therefore, this work is also an invitation to embark on a long and enjoyable journey with me, and I want to create new memories with my fans. This work was completed with the support of many people. I especially want to thank my music crew in America who helped me express the delicate parts like language and emotional expression, allowing me to convey my feelings more straightforwardly. -- Do you have any memorable episodes from the filming of the 'body' music video? Dawon: I think the day of the music video shoot will be unforgettable. Since it was filmed in one take, there was no room for mistakes, and we had to finish all the filming before sunset, which put a lot of pressure on me. So, I was really nervous, but at the same time, it was the most exciting moment. In the end, I was happy to be able to incorporate the energy and free atmosphere I wanted to express. -- As someone called a 'content craftsman' through various programs and content, can we expect a dance challenge for the new song? Dawon: Through content like 'Hot Deal I'm Dawon' and 'Hot Girl I'm Dawon', I've introduced trending items and provided honest reviews while trying them out. I’ve always been interested in new items and cultures that seem to be trending, and I’m grateful that people have come to like my content and call me that. I feel I need to work harder. The dance challenge has similarities, but I wanted to convey music in a way that I truly enjoy and can have fun with. Previously, I filmed various dance challenges like the 'Stay Home Challenge' and 'Super Yuppers! Challenge' in a fun way. This time, I plan to expand the rhythm and energy of the song into a form that more people can enjoy. I have prepared various challenges, so please look forward to it. -- How would you like this work to be remembered for you and for your fans and listeners? Dawon: For me, this work is the first step as artist Dawon. Since it's the first work made solely under my name, it’s more special, and I packed it with my sincerity and courage, so I think it will be remembered as an unforgettable work. And for my fans and listeners, I hope it will be remembered as a work that shows, 'Dawon has this side too.' I hope that not only I but everyone who listens to this music will find it a chance to love themselves more and gain confidence. -- Please say a word to UJUNG (Cosmic Girls' fans) who support you. Dawon: Thank you so much, UJUNG, for always supporting me without change! Thanks to you, I have come this far and have finally taken my first step as a solo artist. This work is filled with my gratitude and love for UJUNG. Thank you for always being with me. I will continue to grow into an artist you can be proud of. Let’s embark on a new journey together and create even more wonderful moments. I love you!
