Former UN member Choi Jung-won has been charged with stalking. SBS reported yesterday (19th) that the Central Seoul Police Station charged Choi Jung-won with stalking on the 16th and is conducting an investigation. According to the police, he is suspected of stalking behavior, such as visiting a female acquaintance's home with a weapon. The police determined that urgent measures against stalking behavior were necessary and applied to the court. The Seoul Central District Court approved this on the 18th. This measure includes a prohibition on approaching the victim within 100 meters and a prohibition on approaching using communication methods such as mobile phones. If violated, he could face up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won (about 100,000 dollars). In response, Choi Jung-won stated on his SNS on the 20th that "the content reported yesterday is a personal conflict between me and her, and a minor dispute that escalated into a kind of incident." He added, "The claim that I threatened or stalked her with a weapon is completely untrue, and both she and I clearly deny the relevant content. I plan to respond strongly to these false facts in the future." Choi Jung-won was also involved in an infidelity scandal with a woman named A in 2022, and was sued for about 100 million won (about 1 million dollars) in damages by A's husband. A's husband claimed that Choi Jung-won had been in a relationship with A before marriage, which led to the collapse of their family. However, he denied this, stating, "A is not an ex-girlfriend, but a sister-like existence who has been close with my family since childhood."
