Wendy of Red Velvet has become the 50,000th member of the Korean Music Performers Association. The association announced today (the 1st) that it has surpassed 50,000 members, and Wendy has become the protagonist of this memorable milestone. At the ceremony, Wendy attended and received a congratulatory cake and bouquet with 'Welcome Wendy' written on it, and took commemorative photos. During the event, she also participated in a ceremony where she broke a ball-shaped cake decorated with a tiara using a hammer. Wendy is currently active as a DJ on SBS Power FM's 'Young Street' and is set to make a comeback with her 3rd mini-album 'Cerulean Verge' on the 10th. She expressed her gratitude for the association's efforts in protecting the rights and welfare of music performers, stating, 'I am happy to participate in such a meaningful occasion as the 50,000th member, and I want to grow as an approachable artist.' Additionally, fromis_9, the same agency as Wendy, became the 51,001st member of the KMPA, setting a new record. The association expressed gratitude, stating, 'The positive cooperation from the agency has become an important turning point in creating a healthy music industry environment that respects the autonomy of performers' rights.' They also hope this cooperation will serve as a model case, encouraging more agencies to respect artists' membership and rights. The KMPA has previously attracted attention for its membership milestones, with the 10,000th member being Kim Sandong of The NuTs, the 20,000th being actress Ha Hira, the 30,000th being musical actress Choi Jungwon, and ARTBEAT as the 40,000th member. Chairman Lee Jonghyun welcomed the 50,000th member, stating, 'We are working to create a creative environment where music performers who have led the quantitative and qualitative growth of the Korean music industry can thrive. I feel a greater responsibility to ensure that many unregistered music performers can join the association. We will do our best not only in our original role of collecting and distributing royalties but also in supporting the activities of music performers.' The KMPA was established in 1988 to collect and distribute royalties for music performers, including singers, instrumentalists, vocalists, and conductors. Anyone who has participated in the release or production of records or sound sources can join and receive benefits such as royalty payments, various welfare systems, and infringement responses.
