WINNER's Son Mino has been put on trial for suspected service negligence. The Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office indicted Son Mino at home yesterday (30th) on suspicion of violating the Military Service Act. The person in charge of the Mapo resident benefit facility, where Son Mino was serving as an alternative service worker, has also been put on trial for allegedly assisting in his negligence. Son Mino has been working as a social service personnel since March 2023, and he is suspected of violating military service laws by not reporting to his workplace as required. In response to the emergence of the service negligence allegations, YG ENTERTAINMENT, his agency, issued an official comment on December 17 last year, stating that the reason for his medical leave was an extension of treatment he had been receiving prior to his service, and that all other leaves were used in accordance with regulations. Aside from this official comment through his agency, Son Mino has remained silent, but it has been reported that he generally admitted to leaving his workplace during service hours during his third summons investigation. He was reported to the police on December 23 last year. Subsequently, the Seoul Mapo Police Station sent Son Mino to the prosecution in May this year on suspicion of violating military service laws. After the service negligence allegations surfaced, there were many opinions suggesting that Son Mino should re-enlist in the army, but this is impossible under current military service laws. Article 33 of the Military Service Act states that if a social service personnel leaves service without a valid reason, they must serve an additional period five times the number of days they were absent. If they leave service for more than eight days without a valid reason, they can be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
