IVE announced that they will not accept gifts from fans. Today (15th), IVE's agency STARSHIP Entertainment clarified, "We have decided to not accept any gifts or support other than fan letters in the future." They continued, "This decision was made with the hope that the gifts you send will reach places where they are more needed by fans, so we ask for your understanding and cooperation." They added, "If you have any support currently being prepared or planned, we will politely decline and would like to only receive the feelings of the fans." Since their debut, IVE had not refused the so-called 'tribute' (fans giving various gifts to stars). In particular, Wonyoung received gifts worth hundreds of millions every year on her birthday, raising mixed opinions. This year, the amount collected for gifts reached about 500 million won (approximately 5 million dollars), including luxury brand bags, clothes, jewelry, shoes, accessories, perfumes, massage guns, game consoles, cameras, and various character products. Recently, the perception of celebrities who publicly accept gifts has strengthened as 'money-minded people.' Previously, Lee Min-ho caused controversy by taking a certified photo among many expensive gifts on his birthday. Additionally, BIGBANG's G-DRAGON does not accept gifts from fans and instead donates to the UNHCR in celebration of his birthday. Most idols have been declining gifts since their debut, only accepting handwritten letters.
