The YouTube channel 'Taldok (De-Otaku) Detention Center' operator Mr. A's appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court's 2nd Division (Ma) held a hearing today (29th) regarding Mr. A's violation of the law on promoting the use of information and communication networks and information protection, and issued a ruling rejecting the appeal without a hearing. As a result, the original ruling was confirmed as is. Mr. A was indicted for posting false videos about celebrities, including IVE's Wonyoung, BTS's V, and Jungkook, from October 2021 to June 2023. It is said that he earned about 250 million won (about 2.6 million dollars) through this. The first and second trial courts sentenced Mr. A to 2 years in prison and 3 years of probation last January and November, respectively, and ordered him to pay a fine of 210 million won (about 2.21 million dollars) and perform 120 hours of community service. Wonyoung has also filed a civil lawsuit against Mr. A. Wonyoung and her agency STARSHIP Entertainment have each filed for damages in the range of 100 million won (about 1 million dollars). The court ordered Mr. A to pay 50 million won (about 500,000 dollars) each to Wonyoung and STARSHIP Entertainment. Previously, the Seoul Western District Court ruled on the 23rd in the appeal of the damages lawsuit filed by BTS's agency BIGHIT MUSIC against Mr. A, partially ruling in favor of the plaintiff. The court determined that Mr. A must additionally pay 5 million won (about 50,000 dollars) each to V and Jungkook, resulting in a total payment order of 86 million won (about 860,000 dollars).
