The live-action film adaptation of Coffee’s manga Wandance, which has been strongly supported by dancers and also aired as a TV anime last year, causing a stir, and which is currently serialized in Monthly Afternoon (Kodansha) and has surpassed a cumulative 1.3 million copies in total circulation of the collected volumes, will be released nationwide on Friday, November 27, 2026 (planning, production, and distribution: Happinet Phantom Studios). The protagonist Kabo will be played by JO of &TEAM, making his first starring role in a film; Hikari Wanda (Wanda Hikari), known as Wanda, who changes the protagonist’s fate, will be played by Anji Ikenaga; the charismatic dancer Miyao On, who leads the dance team (TEAM ON) that Kabo joins, will be played by Kirara Yamaguchi of Girls2; the senior student Iori Itsukushima, who sees Kabo’s talent and encourages him to take on dance battles, will be played by RAN of MAZZEL; Kabe, whose real name is Gaku Kabeya and who becomes Kabo and the others’ strongest rival in dance battles, will be played by TSUKKI; and Usen, the leader of a skilled team that stands in Kabo and the others’ way in a dance contest, will be played by Aloha Takamatsu of Bullet Train. In previous announcements, multiple related words trended on X at the time of the reveal, and the excitement has spread on social media not only among fans of the cast and the original work, but also because attention has been drawn to the high level of the released dance footage. From this work, the first still images have now been unveiled. The released images are a series of stills capturing the main characters devoting their youth to dance. Kabo (JO), who worries about his stutter and suppresses his feelings, appears uneasy and unable to find his place. However, after meeting Wanda (Anji Ikenaga), who immerses herself in dance without caring about others’ eyes, Kabo’s expression changes rapidly as he jumps into the world of dance. He dances with Wanda while sharing feelings on a liberating rooftop, and even stands confidently at center stage at a major contest. Also released are photos capturing On (Kirara Yamaguchi)’s smooth dance moves as she connects with Kabo and Wanda through dance, as well as a still of Kabo practicing dance at university with Iori (RAN). In addition, there are images of Kabe (TSUKKI) performing an acrobatic spinning move, and Usen (Aloha Takamatsu) dancing with a relaxed expression even at the contest. These are still images that convey each character’s passion and feelings toward dance, and anticipation is rising for the moment when these captured moves will be shown as images on the big screen. In commemoration of the film’s release, it has been decided that the original comics with a full-wrap band version of the live-action film and the latest volume 16 with limited bonus items will be released. JO, Anji Ikenaga, Kirara Yamaguchi, RAN, TSUKKI, and Aloha Takamatsu appear on volumes 1 through 6 of the original comics. They will be available at bookstores nationwide from mid-October 2026. In addition, the digital edition is also scheduled to be distributed sequentially as a special cover for a limited time starting Friday, October 15. Furthermore, the latest volume 16 of the original comics has been decided for release on Friday, November 20. As a first-print limited bonus, a hologram card featuring a visual of JO recreating the original first volume will be enclosed. Be sure to check out the original comics along with the film (the full-wrap band and new-volume bonus are limited in quantity and will end once sold out).
