Prior to this, on the 3rd, it was reported that 'Mark's exclusive contract with SM Entertainment will end on the 8th of this month, and as a result, Mark will end all NCT activities.' SM stated, 'After a long time of deep discussion about future activities with Mark, we agreed to terminate the exclusive contract as of April 8. Mark will end all activities with NCT 127, NCT DREAM, and all NCT activities.' In the future, NCT 127 will continue with seven members: Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, and Haechan, while NCT DREAM will continue with six members: Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jemin, Chenle, and Jisung. After the announcement of his departure, Mark posted a handwritten letter, revealing, 'While talking a lot with each member, I was moved to tears by how they all conveyed their support. I will never lose the feeling of being deeply sorry, but above all, I am filled with gratitude. I want to sincerely express my gratitude to the members who see me as a cute little brother and to the juniors who see me as a leader.' He also stated, 'I thought the best thing I could do for the fans I am most grateful for in this situation is to honestly convey my thoughts.
