The popular culture exchange committee led by Park Jin-young has officially launched. On the 1st, the launch ceremony of the committee was held at KINTEX, one of Korea's largest international exhibition convention centers located in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The popular culture exchange committee is a new organization directly under the president, established to realize President Lee Jae-myung's pledge of becoming a 'cultural powerhouse of five major cultures.' Previously, in September, it was reported in Korea that Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hyung-won and Park Jin-young would serve as co-chairs. At the launch event, Park Jin-young stated, 'Content and entertainment by fans, for fans, is the core of K-culture,' and revealed plans to elevate Korea as the center of the entertainment fandom industry. He continued, announcing the planning of a large-scale global event named 'FANOMENON,' which combines 'FAN' and 'PHENOMENON.' He expressed aspirations to establish bases in various cities centered around Korea, making the world closer through K-culture. Regarding the next phase of K-culture, he emphasized making Korea the hub of the entertainment fandom industry. Plans were also disclosed to create a festival larger than the Coachella music festival in the U.S. indoors in Korea. Park Jin-young announced the launch of a year-end festival in Korea in December 2027, stating, 'We will hold an award ceremony reflecting on the year and provide a selection platform for artists who have met fans' expectations, as well as for content and brands.' He also revealed plans to expand to summer outdoor festivals in major cities worldwide starting in 2028. Representatives from Korea's four major agencies, SM Entertainment, HYBE, YG ENTERTAINMENT, and JYP Entertainment, attended the launch ceremony. Stray Kids, belonging to JYP Entertainment, represented K-POP artists in popular culture exchange and held a special performance, making the launch ceremony significant. As Park Jin-young clarified his policies for further leaps in K-culture, attention is focused on how Korea's entertainment industry will change and develop in the future.
