Soccer player Son Heung-min (33, LAFC) was threatened with false claims of 'being pregnant with a child' and extorted a huge amount of money by two individuals. On November 27, during the trial held by Judge Lim Jeong-bin of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 20, the prosecution demanded a 5-year prison sentence for the main perpetrator, Ms. Yang (28, female), and a 2-year sentence for the accomplice, Mr. Yong (40, male), as reported by local media. The prosecution stated, 'Ms. Yang is acting like a victim after receiving compensation, but it does not match the substantive truth 100%. This is a thoroughly planned crime, the case is serious, and the nature of the crime is poor, so the mental suffering of the victim (Son Heung-min) is considered considerable.' Regarding Mr. Yong, they said, 'He threatened 15 times for monetary extortion, and the nature of the crime is poor,' but requested leniency for his cooperation during the investigation. Ms. Yang, known to have worked in the modeling industry, and her boyfriend Mr. Yong are suspected of extorting 300 million won (about 3.2 million USD) from Son Heung-min by threatening to expose that she was pregnant with his child last June. They did not stop there; from March to May, they allegedly threatened to expose the pregnancy and abortion to the media and Son Heung-min's family, demanding an additional 70 million won (about 700,000 USD) (attempted extortion). According to the prosecution's investigation results, it was revealed that Ms. Yang initially tried to demand money from a different man but targeted Son Heung-min after failing. Ms. Yang lied to Son Heung-min about being pregnant and demanded money, extorting 300 million won due to fears of damage to his social reputation and athletic career. Particularly, it was investigated that Ms. Yang spent all the money on luxury goods and, after suffering financial difficulties, attempted to extort money from Son Heung-min again through her boyfriend, shocking many.
