Park Sung-woong says Nonstop 2 is a rare Korean sequel and hopes it becomes a long-running series, even against Hollywood blockbusters.

Park Sung-woong spoke about his confidence in the film Nonstop 2. In an interview recently held in Jongno District, Seoul, Park Sung-woong revealed how he felt ahead of the release of the film Nonstop 2 (directed by Lee Cheol-ha). Nonstop 2 is a comedy action film that begins when Mi-young (Uhm Jung-hwa), a legendary former agent who goes on a luxurious cruise trip with her family, gets caught up in a cruise ship hijacking incident in the middle of the open sea. This work is a sequel to the film Nonstop, which was released in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the previous film, Uhm Jung-hwa, Park Sung-woong, Lee Sang-yoon, and Bae Jeong-nam appear, and Park Jin-joo, Ryeoun, and Girls' Generation's Sooyoung newly joined. About this work, he said, “Nonstop 2 is a rare work as a Korean film. It is a sequel produced for the first time in six years, and it is not a female actress’s one-top action piece, is it? When it was season 1, there were many disappointing points. Because it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, theaters were shut down, and we could only do stage greetings on the Saturday of the opening week, and it was a time when we had to sit apart in theaters. So when I received the scenario this time, I thought, ‘We absolutely have to film this and release it.’” And, emphasizing, “I am in the role of a helper, and this film is Uhm Jung-hwa’s one-top piece,” he said, “I hope this series continues. There are not many Korean films that continue as a series, but my goal is for season 3 of this work to be made.” Park Sung-woong, who leads the action in the film by supporting Uhm Jung-hwa’s action, said in the interview that day, “Jung-hwa noona is good at dancing, so she is very good at using her body. But at first, the action looked as if she were dancing.” Recalling that “it was difficult at first,” Park Sung-woong said, “But when I watched the film at the technical screening, I was surprised. It must have used stunt work, but it was finished so naturally that I could not tell at all.” He also praised Girls' Generation’s Sooyoung, who showed a new side as a villain, saying, “I felt like I rediscovered actress Sooyoung.” “I myself often play villains, but if you just act strongly, it is easy. You have to add another point there. Sooyoung has a high-tone voice, but that actually made her feel very frightening,” he said. Furthermore, he continued, “If we do a third installment, I am curious who will play the next villain. I think it has to be a character even more intense than now.” The film Nonstop is scheduled to be released at the same time as Hollywood blockbusters such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Odyssey. Regarding this, Park Sung-woong showed confidence, saying, “What is the point of climbing a mountain where no one is and becoming number one?” and said, “‘Odyssey’ is a different genre. ‘Odyssey’ is about three hours long, so it is difficult to screen it more than five times a day. On the other hand, Nonstop is a refreshing 108-minute entertainment work.” He continued, “It is a film that you can enjoy casually without using your head. In that respect, I think it is competitive enough. Of course, director Christopher Nolan is a master, but I think there will surely be people who enjoy our film too.”
