Amid allegations of tax evasion against ASTRO's Cha Eun-woo, his agency has stated their position. Today (22nd), Cha Eun-woo's agency, fantagio, reported that 'the main point of contention in this case is whether the corporation established by Cha Eun-woo's mother is subject to actual taxation. This is not a finalized or announced case, and we plan to actively explain the points related to legal interpretation and application in accordance with proper procedures.' They continued, 'To ensure that the relevant procedures are completed promptly, the artist and tax representatives will cooperate sincerely, and Cha Eun-woo promises to fulfill his tax declaration and legal obligations sincerely as a citizen.' Earlier today, a South Korean media outlet reported that Cha Eun-woo received a tax reassessment notice from the National Tax Service for over 20 billion won (approximately 2 billion yen) due to allegations of income tax evasion. According to reports, Cha Eun-woo is currently appealing the National Tax Service's decision and is awaiting the results of a pre-tax assessment review. He underwent an investigation by the Seoul Regional Tax Office's Investigation Bureau 4 last spring. According to South Korean media, in this case, fantagio and the corporation A established by his mother entered into a service contract to support Cha Eun-woo's entertainment activities, and from this point, Cha Eun-woo's income was shared between fantagio and corporation A. However, the National Tax Service has determined that corporation A is a paper company that does not provide actual services. It is reported that Cha Eun-woo and his mother created a non-existent corporation to reduce income tax, applying a corporate tax rate that is more than 20 percentage points lower than the income tax rate. Cha Eun-woo has been serving in the army's military band since July last year, with a scheduled discharge date of January 27, 2027.
