In March 2025, singer-songwriter K will celebrate their 20th anniversary, and from March of that year, they will embark on a year-long nationwide live tour titled 'K 20th Anniversary LIVE', which will conclude on March 1 at Zepp Namba. In an interview with K, who is preparing for this culminating live performance, we discussed this live show that represents the culmination of 20 years, as well as their past and future as an artist. This tour has featured a band set and solo piano performances, changing the theme and setlist with each season, layering sounds as if conversing with fans. Additionally, special live performances titled 'Special Night' and 'Winter Wonderland! with Kaoru Kurosawa' were held at Billboard Live Yokohama and Osaka (originally scheduled for December but rescheduled to February 3 at COTTON CLUB in Tokyo). This tour is both a way to express gratitude to the fans who have supported K for 20 years and a journey filled with excitement and pressure as K confirms their current position after 20 years and continues to unveil new songs live. As the seasons change, K's live performances have also evolved. 'For example, in a small live house, the audience's clothing changes with the seasons, affecting the sound's resonance, and as the temperature of the wind changes, the nuances of the songs naturally change as well. In the past, I couldn't respond honestly to such things,' K reflects, but now they have learned to accept everything naturally and enjoy changing their songs according to the scenery and the audience's reactions. 'In the past, I wanted people to 'listen to my music.' But now, after turning 30 and entering my 40s, I feel happy just to be able to enjoy what I create with someone else. I believe that even the same words gain more persuasive power when expressed honestly, and as a person who expresses themselves, I finally understand that I need to enter that phase.' This statement carries the weight of 20 years of experience. K also mentioned, 'Live performances are living things. The setlist changes drastically depending on the venue and mood, and no two live shows are the same. It only becomes special with fans who share that experience, creating a unique atmosphere.' The special place and time of 'interaction' with fans serve as the starting point for the conception of songs. Among the new songs born from this process is 'Meaning' (scheduled for release on November 1, 2025), a ballad that discusses the meaning of life between Koreans and Japanese in each other's languages. 'I wanted to create something that only I, having lived 20 years in Korea and 21 years in Japan, could do,' K said, and this song has become an essential part of their live performances. The long tour has not been without its troubles, including issues during travel. 'But when trouble arises, I think, 'Yes!' (laughs). This will definitely turn into something good; I've got material for my MC (laughs),' K revealed, noting that many fans look forward to their talk segments. The performances are filled with laughter, tears during ballads, and uplifting moments with upbeat songs, creating a rich and vibrant live experience where the band's sound and K's voice blend beautifully. The tour finale is named '20th Anniversary LIVE 'NEW PAGE'. On the same day, a new album of the same name is set to be released. K plans to perform all the new songs created throughout the seasons, as well as past songs that they want to convey now, making it a live show that turns the page into the 21st year. 'Since the first day was in Tokyo, I had decided from the beginning to have the finale in Osaka, where I have had many live performances and where I have a regular radio program. The energy at Osaka shows is unique, and it's always so much fun. The staff is also incredibly passionate, so I want to make this finale a fitting celebration of 20 years,' K expressed with enthusiasm. The album title 'NEW PAGE' embodies their determination for the 21st year. K stated, 'In the past, after finishing a tour or releasing an album, I would often burn out and struggle to write songs for a while. But this time is different. I want to promise myself and my fans that as soon as it ends, something new will begin.' This album symbolizes that promise. K also expressed a desire to engage in activities in Korea and to challenge themselves in production and soundtrack creation. K's vision for the future is diverse. However, the starting point for everything remains live performances. 'Singing in front of people is my main form of expression.' K will continue to stand on stage, now and in the future.
