The Netflix series "Soulmate," starring Isomura Yuto and 2PM's Taecyeon, will start exclusive worldwide distribution on May 14 (Thursday). Ryu (Isomura Yuto) and Johan (Ok Taecyeon), two lonely young men who meet as if drawn together by something, will connect their souls and strive to move forward in the three attractive cities of Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo. The beautiful and emotional ten-year journey of the two, who become 'soulmates' that one can only meet once in a lifetime, is depicted. While encouraging each other and sometimes clashing intensely, they wish to 'live together,' but the threads of fate cruelly entangle them... Over a long filming period of four and a half months, the two traveled the world together, developing mutual respect and connecting their hearts. Both have shone in their respective fields. The filming days, which were certainly not easy, were overcome with smiles, and their presence continues to be captured on camera in every city they visit. Although their fields of activity are different, the 'Isotegyeong' who shared a resonating soul will surely be loved by people around the world. The story of love and soul between Ryu (Isomura Yuto) and Johan (Ok Taecyeon), set in Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo, is beautifully ephemeral and quietly stirs the emotions of viewers. This dense drama is condensed into eight episodes. Recently, the eight episode titles and eight scene photos capturing their journey, which can be called a 'record of the soul,' have been released all at once. Ryu, who belonged to the university ice hockey club, was having fulfilling days with his teammate and best friend Oikawa Arata (Mikami Koji). However, due to a certain incident, he unintentionally deeply hurts Arata, disrupting his life. Discarding everything, Ryu travels to Berlin, where his childhood friend Shinnomoto Sumiko (Hashimoto Ai) lives, and meets the boxer Johan. Their meeting, seemingly coincidental, carries an irresistible gravity. The 'invisible force' that begins to work between them eventually draws a trajectory that can only be called fate. However, a harsh reality awaits Johan, and their relationship begins to move in an unexpected direction. Each episode is titled: 'The Dynamics of Fate,' 'Can You Protect the Soul?,' 'The Person Reflected in the Landscape of the Heart,' 'The Two on Sand,' 'Reborn Souls,' 'Galactic Railway,' 'Because of Love,' and 'Soulmate.' Each title poetically points to universal yet elusive themes such as 'fate,' 'soul,' and 'love' without overly detailing the story. Regarding the title 'Soulmate,' the scriptwriter and director Hashizume Shunki commented, 'I love reading books, and there is a work by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato called 'Symposium' that explores the theme of 'Why do people seek others?' This is a universal question that has continued for over 2000 years. I wanted to approach this theme through the story of 'Soulmate.' Each word has its meaning and connects to certain moments. These titles, which are fragmentary yet somehow connected, evoke imagination even before watching. The eight scene photos released alongside capture precious moments of youth spent by Ryu and Arata, their meeting with Johan in Berlin, the time they share unspoken emotions, and the moments pregnant with the signs of fate moving significantly. Each cut captures an impressive moment, creating a sentimental feeling as if peering into the two's photo diary. Those who are meant to meet will surely meet someday. This story of love and soul, woven into the intertwined fate, makes one believe in such miracles. This work, which gently distances itself from the noise of everyday life and slowly unravels emotions, is sure to quietly accompany the slightly tired heart after the holiday break. The Netflix series 'Soulmate' will be exclusively distributed worldwide starting May 14 (Thursday).
