Kanmin of VERIVERY talked about his feelings on releasing his first solo album after 7 years. Recently, he met with Newsen at Jellyfish Entertainment's office in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, to discuss the release of his solo debut single 'Free Falling.' Kanmin debuted as a member of VERIVERY in 2019. Last year, he appeared on Mnet's audition program 'BOYS II PLANET' and unfortunately missed out on debuting, finishing in 9th place. 'Since this is my first time working solo, I am nervous. I am also excited and anxious,' Kanmin began. 'A story I want to tell has been born. I consulted with the company, and I am grateful that they accepted it positively. I appreciate the opportunity to speak frankly about my story. I am working hard to do my best so that fans will be satisfied.' March 26 is likely to be an unforgettable day for Kanmin as it marks the release of his first solo album after 7 years. The debut single 'Free Falling' includes three tracks: 'intro: small, fragile and still here,' the title track 'Free Falling,' and 'in the mirror.' 'Free Falling' depicts Kanmin's time standing at the boundary between boyhood and adulthood. It portrays the anxiety and fluctuations faced in the process of moving forward step by step without finding the right answers, rather than a perfect image or a confident future. Notably, Kanmin wrote the lyrics for the intro and the title track 'Free Falling.' He explained, 'Actually, the time I spent working was very short. I have an impulsive side, and I immediately talked to the company representative. The company responded more quickly than I expected, saying they wanted to release it by the end of March. I thought it was quicker than I expected, but everyone worked overnight, and a satisfying album was completed. I discussed this around the end of December to early January. At that time, while conducting personal and group fan meetings, I felt the urge to talk about this.' He added, 'After 'BOYS II PLANET' ended, I strongly felt that I had been given another chance. I talked a lot with my friends and the company. I said I didn't want to miss this opportunity.' He continued, 'Especially during the fan meetings, I felt this emotion strongly. So, at first, I wanted to talk about anxiety, but when discussing the album specifically, I wondered if I should start with what fans like. Still, when I reflect on myself in the public eye, many people imagine a bright image of me, so I was troubled about what to do. I thought it would be good to convey what fits my current situation honestly, so I decided to talk about my anxiety.' Kanmin candidly shared, 'I have talked a lot about this with my fans. After the fan meetings, I worried a lot alone. When I had to perform again, I was always worried about whether I would satisfy them or what if other cool idols appeared and they stopped liking me? I was always happy during fan meetings, but after they ended, I was caught up in those worries.' He also mentioned, 'Being an idol is a profession that needs to receive love; otherwise, there is no value in existence. If I don't receive love, my sense of self-worth becomes unclear. Of course, I have had such times. I was starving for love. I wanted to be loved more. That made me anxious but also made me happy.' He said, 'I thought about it, and the impact of the voting from 'BOYS II PLANET' was very significant. Voting is determined by the love of fans. 'BOYS II PLANET' is the program where this is most explicitly visible. After finishing the program, I began to feel more gratitude. Therefore, I think various thoughts were amplified. Gratitude and happiness come with anxiety. That is why I started this story.' He revealed, 'I had a strong desire to be loved. I had a desperate feeling to not miss any attention I received and to want more. I prepared this work while thinking about such things. I had a strong desire not to disappoint.'
