The first solo album 'Crossfade:' depicts the moment when two selves coexisting within one person intersect. It captures the moment when the 'true self' in a solitary space collides with the 'masked self' created under the gaze of others, gradually overlapping. This album includes a variety of genres and offers a glimpse into Kim Inseong's inner self, rather than just SF9's Inseong. The album contains five tracks, including the title track 'Mute is Off,' 'Banquet Song,' 'In the Middle of Loving,' 'Memories Stained by You,' and 'You Were There Then, I Am Here Now.' The title track 'Mute is Off,' which is his first self-composed song, is a rock ballad harmonizing compelling vocals with dramatic band sounds. The lyrics, which confess his hidden true self rather than his usual bright persona, are striking. Inseong: I am so nervous that I can't express it in words, and at the same time, I feel grateful; many emotions are mixed. Since this is my first solo album, I am happy to deliver my music to many people, and I hope they can purely enjoy the album. I am truly happy to open the curtain for SF9 in 2026 with the music I love the most. -- What are the highlights of this album? Inseong: First of all, all the songs are composed with band sounds. I paid great attention to detail, from the arrangement of instruments to the intricate chorus. I sang each syllable carefully during recording, so I believe each song is a meticulously woven 'set of songs.' Especially for the title track 'Mute is Off,' I focused on ensuring the lyrics are well conveyed, and various singing methods are blended into the song. -- Please introduce the title track 'Mute is Off.' Inseong: 'Mute is Off' is a rock ballad with a dramatic band sound, full of energy, and it expresses the flow of change I wanted to convey. It has a comforting message, and I hope listeners can feel it in various ways depending on their mood or situation, especially while listening in the car. -- As this is your first self-composed song, what was the most important aspect during the production process? Inseong: I placed great importance on the lyrics that connect to the album's theme. However, I didn't want to become overly emotional; I hoped to incorporate my honest self into the song. I am still in the learning stage, so there are areas I lack, but I constantly thought about what best represents my voice and expresses my individuality, continuing my voice research. I don't know how much it will reach everyone, but I poured my utmost sincerity into it. -- What moments stood out during the music video shoot? The music video features dogs and cats, and I had fun shooting with the cute pets. Also, the process of completing my song alone greatly helped my growth and I believe it was a moment where I leveled up as an artist. When my song played in the spacious filming location, I felt proud and my heart warmed, with various emotions welling up. Therefore, every moment of the shoot was enjoyable, and I didn't want to miss a second. -- Are there any other tracks you would recommend besides the title track? Inseong: Since all the songs are prepared in a band style, I hope you listen to them in order. Starting with the title track, 'Banquet Song' brings healing, 'In the Middle of Loving' expresses excitement, 'Memories Stained by You' has a dreamy atmosphere, and 'You Were There Then, I Am Here Now' expresses sadness; each has a clear message and atmosphere, so I think you will enjoy listening from start to finish. -- Do you have any goals you want to achieve through this album and activities? Inseong: Of course, I want to show my musical growth and expand my spectrum, as well as showcase the possibilities SF9 can present in 2026. It will soon be 10 years since our debut, but I want to convey the message that I still have endless energy and want to expand my activities even further. And I am confident. -- What does the solo album 'Crossfade:' mean to you? Inseong: This album reminded me of my love for music. It reflects the feelings I had when I first wanted to become a singer, and I approached it with even more passion. Above all, it reaffirmed my desire to continue singing for a long time in front of many people who love my music and SF9's music. -- Finally, do you have a message for FANTASY (SF9's fans)? Inseong: While preparing for this album, I strongly felt how much I love singing. When I sing in front of FANTASY, who are very important to me, I am always filled with nervousness and excitement.
