Hwasa of MAMAMOO spoke about her feelings behind the new song "So Cute." On the 9th of this month, Hwasa made her comeback by releasing the digital single "So Cute" through various music distribution sites. This marks her return about six months after the mega-hit "Good Goodbye," which was released on October 15 of last year. "So Cute" is a lively dance-pop genre song. The lyrics were written by Hwasa and her agency's representative PSY, while she and Park Woosang composed the music. -- It's been about six months since you released "Good Goodbye" and now you have a new song "So Cute." How do you feel about it? Hwasa: I prepared hard with the feeling of wanting to repay the fans who have sent me a lot of love. I would be happy if those who listen to the new song feel a lot of joy. -- Can you introduce "So Cute"? Why did you create a song with this title? Hwasa: I thought that the small and trivial "cuteness" is what helps us in our dry daily lives. Even if that appearance seems unreliable, it gives us points that can melt our frozen hearts. Happiness is really not a big deal. "So cute! That's enough!" -- "So Cute" has a different charm compared to your previous songs, with a pop style that seems relaxed. Is there a special intention behind it? Hwasa: I feel like I have delivered strong impression stories until now, and I was feeling fatigued by that. Recently, I wanted to express my quiet thoughts in words. -- Like the previous work, you participated in writing and composing this song. What did you focus on while creating it? Hwasa: This song started from "fear." As I naturally age, I learn more, but sometimes I feel a child-like fear within that. I wanted to express in the song the image of moving toward a small and cute ray of light amidst the confused feeling of "I am just an adult in body, but I am also a person experiencing adulthood for the first time." -- You co-wrote the lyrics with PSY. Can you tell us about that process? Hwasa: Since the song includes English lyrics, I really struggled with that part. However, when I consulted with PSY, he quickly helped me organize it right there. -- I think your previous song "Good Goodbye" became your biggest hit as a solo artist. It recorded a "perfect all-kill" 750 times, and no other Korean artist has such a record. After such a mega-hit, did you feel any pressure for this comeback? Hwasa: I didn't feel any pressure. I think "Good Goodbye" is a song that I can never write again, so I am grateful that I was able to shape it well. I want to approach the next chapter with the feeling of starting again from zero. -- Can you tell us about the highlights of the music video? Hwasa: I wanted to convey the power gained from small and cute things encountered in a boring daily life. -- "Good Goodbye" was a big hit, but do you have any goals you want to achieve with "So Cute"? Hwasa: As I mentioned earlier, I am approaching the next chapter with the feeling of starting again from zero, so I don't have specific goals. However, I hope this small, trivial, and cute song can be a source of strength for many people. -- Your self-composed songs are loved, and your position as a singer-songwriter is solidified. How do you overcome the pressure of songwriting? Hwasa: The hardest part is when I don't have a story to tell rather than the pressure of creating songs. However, I want to live my life properly while conveying various stories. -- This year, in addition to solo activities, you have MAMAMOO activities and a world tour coming up. Please say something to your fans. Hwasa: Finally. Finally!!! I missed you. -- It has been announced that you will perform at the large music festival "Rock in Rio" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in September. What are your thoughts on that? Hwasa: Whether big or small, the stage is always a precious and important place for me. As always, I plan to approach it with love for the stage and love for the fans.
