BOYNEXTDOOR released HOME: DELUXE, a 14-track repackage led by the electro-funk title song ANIMAL, and shared their comeback hopes.

BOYNEXTDOOR released their 1st Studio Album Repackage, HOME: DELUXE, at 6 p.m. today (the 28th). It is a work that contains the will to move toward a wider world, using their past journey as nourishment. In addition to the 9 songs included on the previous album (1st Studio Album HOME), it contains a total of 14 tracks, including the new songs ANIMAL and CLICHE, the Korean version of Count To Love, which was released in Japan, Boom Boom Boom, and their first fan song, 400 Years, which they had performed on the group’s official YouTube channel. Starting with ANIMAL, an electro-funk song that the six members are challenging for the first time, listeners can feel their charm as they move across a wide range of genres such as disco, dance, and pop ballads. The title song ANIMAL sings about a spirit of challenge and an ambition to constantly surpass oneself and move toward a better tomorrow. It expresses the strong will to keep moving forward without giving up for what one wants, likening it to the dynamic movements of animals. The group’s characteristic of making music themselves appears everywhere. A representative example is the chorus chant that was born from their experience breathing with the audience during past performances. Also, Riwoo participated in creating the choreography, adding even more of the group’s unique individuality. The choreography, which visualizes animal movements like the song title, leaves a strong impression. An interview with BOYNEXTDOOR, who showed intense energy, was released. — How do you feel about releasing the 1st Studio Album Repackage HOME: DELUXE? BOYNEXTDOOR: We are happy that we were able to make a comeback quickly. We had a strong desire to come back once more this year, and we prepared repackage activities together with our first full album. We prepared a song with a charm different from the previous title track, so we would be happy if many people love it. Since we made our own “HOME,” our first full album, this time we want to have a party together with everyone. — Please tell us the difference from the 1st Studio Album HOME. Jaehyun: The overall atmosphere of the album is quite different. Since HOME had a clear theme, there was a part where we faced it sincerely because we wanted to express it in a more valuable and cool way. If the previous work brought out a side of us that people did not know much about yet, this time we made the album with BOYNEXTDOOR’s familiar qualities in mind. If you listen to the newly included songs, I think you will feel, “This is exactly BOYNEXTDOOR.” I think it became a highly complete album because our sincere side that we want to show and the free-spiritedness that people feel from us were combined. I am also looking forward to touring with the new songs. Sungho: Compared with HOME, I felt less pressure emotionally. HOME had the weight of being our own story, and because we faced it very seriously emotionally, even from the recording stage I worried about what if it did not come across well. But this time, the title song ANIMAL is a song whose charm comes out when you do not think too much, so rather than overthinking, I wanted to record it in a relaxed way. — What did you feel while making the title song ANIMAL? Jaehyun: Since it was the first time we were trying the genre electro-funk, we worked very hard. There were times when Taesan, Woonhak, and I let only the beat play and time passed without us being able to write the song at all. I remember that after finishing the first day’s work, we said we needed to study this genre. While listening to various songs and studying, we made a demo version and had the members listen to it, but the reactions were split right down the middle, which was interesting. Taesan: When we were performing in the United States, the “Whop Whop!” chant that the fans shouted while cheering was really great. I wanted to incorporate this kind of “animal sound” into the music as well. I thought it would be interesting to make the theme of the song ANIMAL, so I created it together with the members and producers. At first, I thought it was, in a good way, “restless music,” and that is why it is a song that makes the stage exciting. While singing this song, I want everyone to jump together and have fun. Woonhak: I wanted to put instinctive feelings into it well. The repeated line in the song, “Move like animal,” literally means that I want people to move freely like animals, following their instincts. I wanted to make a melody that stimulates instinct, with the wish that people move as they please without worrying about anything else. During production, what I wanted most was to perform on stage quickly. It is a song that makes you feel energized, as if you had received an IV drip, just by listening, so I think we can show it enjoyably at the venue as well. — What was your impression when you first heard the title song ANIMAL? Lee Han: The moment I first heard ANIMAL, I thought our team could express it in a fun and good way. If HOME was a sincere work, then for this activity I want to show our raw energy and work happily. Riwoo: As befitting the title ANIMAL, it had a powerful and wild atmosphere, so I remember naturally getting into the rhythm. I thought it was a song where you can let loose without thinking about anything, so I want listeners to surrender both their minds and bodies to the music just like I did. — Please tell us the listening points of the title song. BOYNEXTDOOR: Rather than thinking deeply, we would be happy if you could let go of reason for a moment and just feel this music. We think this kind of energy is BOYNEXTDOOR. If you come to see the stage, we will make you want to jump naturally. We would be happy if everyone listens to ANIMAL and jumps and enjoys it together. Rather than us trying hard to show something, we want to see the audience enjoying themselves. — What did you especially focus on while preparing the performance for the title song? Riwoo: After working through a lot of 고민, I was able to have my name listed in the choreography credits for the first time this time. I have participated in choreography creation before, but this is the first time my name has been credited, so I am truly proud and happy. Because the song is powerful, if the performance were also too intense, I thought it would be hard for the audience to enjoy it together. I wanted to create a point in the chorus choreography that feels relaxed and has contrast, so I discussed those parts with the company while making the choreography. Unlike our previous activities, for ANIMAL I wanted to include movements that are easy to imitate, so I added a bit of wit to the chorus. If I have one wish, it would be that the chorus choreography part I made becomes a challenge trend (laughs). — Please tell us behind-the-scenes stories from the recording and music video shoot. Jaehyun: Before and after my recording, Woonhak and Lee Han were singing even more strongly, so I also sang powerfully to match them. Then the next member would sing strongly too, so it was memorable that we adjusted the balance among ourselves. This time I was also in charge of a super-low part, so I think you will feel a different impression. During production, I played the track and did freestyle dance with Woonhak, and the members said we looked like animals (laughs). Sungho: During the music video shoot, to create a sense of vitality, I remember filming scenes of running continuously while moving around to various places such as Daejeon, Paju, and Incheon. There are scenes where we push through crowds and freely walk around among citizens in a market, and through those scenes I wanted to express a sense of liberation. — What kind of reaction do you hope for through the repackage album activities? BOYNEXTDOOR: We would be happy if people said that just watching us makes them want to jump and play together. We would be happy if they called us a “live-type idol.” We want to enjoy ourselves on stage like animals. We would be happy if people thought of us as a team that is good at having fun, and we will show that we are immersed in music and the stage.
