*This article contains content related to the drama's story. Ruda from Cosmic Girls left a strong impression in her first daily drama appearance. Ruda plays the role of Baek Mi-so in the MBC daily drama 'The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun' (directed by Kim Jin-hyun, written by Seol Kyung-eun), showcasing her presence with impressive acting. The drama depicts a heartbreaking revenge story of a woman who marries into a chaebol family under her only daughter's name in a world where victims impersonate their perpetrators. In the drama, Ruda plays Baek Mi-so, the irreplaceable only daughter of Baek Seol-hee (Jang Sin-young), who loves and understands her mother more than anyone else. She delicately expresses the complex emotions of a character pushed to extreme situations, drawing viewers into the drama. Particularly, she stands out as a 'key player' who will significantly influence the future developments of the drama. Ruda, who has shown her presence with impactful performances up to episode 12, stated, 'Although Baek Mi-so dies in episode 12, I believe I opened the door to 'The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun' in a way. Rather than desiring more scenes, I felt a strong desire to create impactful scenes within the amount given to me. Fans say they are disappointed by the limited appearances, but I accepted the role knowing the amount, so I don't feel too disappointed.' Ruda, who plays a third-year middle school student Baek Mi-so for the first time in a daily drama, expressed, 'I chose this role with confidence, thinking it would be fun and I could do well, but as the filming approached, I felt anxious. I was worried about the setting of being a third-year middle school student, especially since my co-stars were much younger than me. I was concerned about what a third-year middle school student would be like, so I went to an internet café. The middle school students I saw there felt much younger than I did at that age. I tried to express Baek Mi-so as a third-year student in my own way, but the director told me, 'You don't have to force yourself to act younger.' He said it would be better to act naturally, in Ruda's atmosphere, which relieved me a bit.' Although the character is a third-year middle school student, her emotions are more complex and profound than any other character. Because of her short appearances, she had to leave an even greater impact, which must have been a concern for her. Ruda said, 'Since Baek Mi-so is a tragic character who makes extreme choices, I thought a lot about what kind of feelings she would have and why she would come to think that way. I wondered if I could express this pain. Therefore, I read many interviews with psychological counselors and psychiatrists. There is a big difference between making extreme choices and just thinking about them. I prepared while considering such things.' Regarding the difficulty of acting, she said, 'I think it's about four out of five stars. I don't know what score I would give 'The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun' after gaining experience from other works, but for now, I think it was quite challenging.' Ruda's worries were alleviated by director Kim Jin-hyun. Ruda said, 'The director repeatedly told me, 'Baek Mi-so is very important.' I am someone who cannot express myself unless I understand, so I asked many questions. I had doubts about why she would be so rude to her mother, who did nothing wrong. But the director taught me, 'Mi-so doesn't really hate her mother; she just needs someone to be angry at right now.' After thinking about it, I realized that sometimes, with those who are close like family, we can be inconsiderate and not maintain manners. Especially since Baek Mi-so is a middle school student, at a time of emotional ups and downs, I thought that might be the case and expressed it.' Ruda, who created Baek Mi-so through deep research and advice from the director and others, opened the door to 'The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun' and completed her role. Showing deep understanding and immersion in her character, Ruda also attracted attention by posting suicide prevention messages on social media. Regarding why she wrote this, she said, 'While preparing for 'The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun,' I searched for many consultations from psychiatrists. After filming the rooftop scene and coming back, I thought there might be people who made decisions like Baek Mi-so, as well as those who almost went through with it but turned back. It felt heavy to express such parts as one of the contents of the drama, and as it is often said, that is not a method or means. I wanted to reach out to those who might be struggling with such thoughts, so I wrote it.'
