The door to the theater "Cherry Orchard," where great performances bloom, is opened. Yesterday (23rd) afternoon, the production announcement of the play "Cherry Orchard" was held at LG Art Center Seoul in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, with Jung Do-yeon, Park Hae-soo, Song Sang-kyu, producer Lee Hyun-jung, and director Simon Stone in attendance. This work is a piece that adapted Anton Chekhov's play "Cherry Orchard," representing Russia, to the backdrop of Korea. Jung Do-yeon plays Son Do-yeon (original: Lyuba), who returns to America after her son's death, and Park Hae-soo plays Fan Doo-sik (original: Lopakhin), a successful real estate developer. This is Jung Do-yeon's first theater performance in about 27 years. She confessed the reason for deciding to appear, saying, "It may be a challenge to say it's a challenge, but actually, I feel like there are too many works that I have never done before. Although the genre is theater, rather than a challenge, I think it's one of the processes of working on something I haven't done before." She continued, "I was very scared. The reason is that in movies and dramas, you show a refined appearance, but in theater, you have to show your unrefined, true self. Still, the director Simon Stone was very charming, and I was fascinated while watching his work, so I chose it." When asked about the reason for deciding to appear, Park Hae-soo mentioned Jung Do-yeon. He began by saying, "In the process of doing what I want to do in dramas, movies, and performances, I am trying to choose works that I can learn something from. I didn't want to miss the character in this work, and I didn't want to regret it later." He further emphasized, "I have worked with many wonderful actors, but I have never worked with senior Jung Do-yeon. I am happy to be able to perform with senior Jung Do-yeon on stage, and I really wanted to participate." Director Simon Stone, who also attended the production announcement, said, "It is an honor to have actors whom I have seen in movies and dramas sitting in front of me. I think I am the luckiest person in the world," showing strong trust in Jung Do-yeon and Park Hae-soo. "Cherry Orchard" will be performed at LG Art Center Seoul from June 4th to July 7th.
