Since its founding in 1847, the luxury maison Cartier, which continues to propose timeless beauty through original creations and the superb skill of its artisans, announced on Tuesday, October 13, the second chapter of its new high jewelry collection, Le Chœur des Pierres. To commemorate this, Haruka Ayase, who made her memorable first appearance on Cartier’s glamorous stage; Mio Imada, who added brilliance to the maison’s milestone in Japan; Kento Kaku, who resonates with its value; Jisoo of BLACKPINK; three ambassadors, Sofia Coppola; Nanako Matsushima, who has cultivated a special bond over many years; and Ryo Yoshizawa, who has woven ties with the maison through various opportunities, gathered in Kyoto wearing the latest collection’s high jewelry. This collection, which can be called a hymn to gemstones, celebrates the special relationship between Cartier and gemstones, and tells the story that gemstones are beings that guide creation and inspiration. A number of stones, found by intuition and endowed with indescribable charm and individuality, create a harmony that produces a single resonance through Cartier’s hands. At the venue, many works including “Stellara” and “Panthère Tunyā,” which represent this collection, were exhibited. Furthermore, to commemorate the announcement of the collection, Cartier held a special one-night-only dinner. At the dinner, attended by glamorous celebrities, a presentation by models wearing jewelry from the same collection and a kabuki performance by Hayato Nakamura were presented, brilliantly coloring the night in Kyoto. Haruka Ayase appeared in a lustrous black dress with the brilliant “Chrysos” necklace standing out. When asked about the impression of the high jewelry she actually wore and the points that attracted her, she said, “The yellow diamond in the center has a bright shine like the sun, and it has a good balance with the white diamonds around it. When you look closely, each shape is beautifully arranged, and even though it is delicate, it feels glamorous and has amazing strength.” Mio Imada appeared in an impressive all-black dress with an open décolletage, with the emerald stone of the “Smara” jewelry at her neck shining. When asked about her impressions of actually experiencing the glittering world of Le Chœur des Pierres, she said, “There were many pieces with nature as a motif, and there were many natural things such as shells, plants, and the sea, and they were very attractive and overwhelming.” Kento Kaku appeared in a refined gray suit with a polka-dot bow tie, with the “Yellow Panthère Telesma” jewelry, featuring emerald eyes, standing out. When asked what special scenes or styling he would like to match with the finest jewelry of Le Chœur des Pierres, he revealed, “It would be difficult to wear high jewelry like this in everyday life, but if possible, since I like casual clothes, I would like to someday try wearing something like this high jewelry with a T-shirt or a simple jacket.” Jisoo appeared wearing a gorgeous and striking white dress with a slit, with the “Stellara” necklace drawing the eye at her chest. When asked about the “point that attracted” her about the high jewelry she wore, she said, “The harmony created by the sapphire with its dazzling blue light at the center and the diamonds that spread delicately like waves is elegance itself. I was captivated at first sight.” Sofia Coppola appeared in an elegant shirt-dress style with the “Polidroma” necklace and earrings shining. When asked about her feelings about encountering Cartier’s high jewelry in the historic place of Kyoto, she replied, “Coming to Kyoto is always a wonderful experience, and it is a beautiful place where I can feel the craftsmanship with my own skin. I am filled with happiness. I think it is a place where craftsmanship can be felt.” Nanako Matsushima appeared in a dignified black long dress paired with a clutch bag, with the sea-inspired “Pelagia” jewelry standing out. In connection with gemstones that continue to radiate a one-of-a-kind charm unchanged even as time passes, when asked what she has cherished for a long time, she said, “I cherish jewelry that has very memorable associations from each period, but the first one for me was a small ruby heart-shaped ring I bought when I went on a leisurely trip with my mother after finishing filming a morning drama. I sometimes look at it and remember my初心, and I treasure it very much.” Ryo Yoshizawa appeared in a stylish black suit style with the “Panthère Avola” jewelry shining at his chest. In connection with the fact that gemstones with unique individuality harmonize as one beautiful symphony, when asked what he values in work and private life, he revealed, “I am not very good at communication on set, but when everyone is trying to improve one work while facing the same direction, recently I have been participating in works in the position of lead actor more often, so even though I am not good at it, listening to the staff and cast around me, and listening to people, is important because acting is also communication. Receiving the other person’s feelings and words and playing catch with them is, I think, very important both for creating the set and for creating the work.” Q. Today, you appeared at the announcement event for Cartier’s new high jewelry collection Le Chœur des Pierres. How do you feel now after experiencing the atmosphere of the venue and the glittering world of Le Chœur des Pierres in person? Haruka Ayase: “Truly, no matter which jewelry I looked at, it was like a work of art, beautiful, and I was completely absorbed in it. Just imagining the story behind it—that stones formed naturally over many years on Earth are transformed again into beautiful jewelry by artisans—felt very miraculous and romantic.” Mio Imada: “I am visiting Kyoto this time, and when I looked at the jewelry just now, there were many with nature as motifs, and there were many natural things such as shells, plants, and the sea, and they were very attractive and overwhelming.” Kento Kaku: “Above all, I just can’t stop smiling the whole time (laughs). I have been working with Cartier for quite a long time, and I have always been a big fan of Cartier, so the fact that I could see this high jewelry collection in Japan is amazing. Not only is the jewelry wonderful, but the universal quality fused with traditional Japanese elements was a perfect match. But honestly, I still haven’t seen everything yet—I was suddenly called here. I want to go back soon (laughs).” Jisoo: “Being able to encounter Cartier’s beautiful high jewelry here in Kyoto feels very meaningful. By the quiet scenery of Kyoto meeting Cartier’s jewelry, which is alive with craftsmanship, I was able to feel once again what beauty that does not fade even as time passes is.” Sofia Coppola: “Coming to Kyoto this time and actually seeing the venue, it was truly a wonderful place. It has a wonderful atmosphere, and I am actually wearing the necklace and earrings, and I am truly able to feel beautiful.” Nanako Matsushima: “This time there were many animal motifs, and I think there were many lively pieces of jewelry. The emeralds sway, and because the settings are three-dimensional, when light hits them they seem to move, so I think there were many very exciting exhibits.” Ryo Yoshizawa: “I really felt that I was able to witness the individuality of each gemstone and the skill of the artisans, and that I was visiting a truly wonderful space.” Q. Regarding the high jewelry you are wearing today, please tell us your impressions of actually wearing it, and if there were any points that attracted you, such as the design or the brilliance of the gemstones. Haruka Ayase: “Today I am wearing the jewelry called ‘Chrysos,’ and the yellow diamond in the center has a bright shine like the sun, and it has a good balance with the white diamonds around it. When you look closely, each shape is beautifully arranged, and even though it is delicate, it feels glamorous and has amazing strength.” Mio Imada: “It is very beautiful and I am a little nervous, but the green emerald stone changes expression so much when it catches the light and is lovely, and it is choker-like, so it is very cute and I like it.” Kento Kaku: “What I am wearing now is a brooch called ‘Yellow Panthère Telesma,’ and the eyes are emeralds. The details are just incredible, and the expression is very delicate, yet it also has a sense of three-dimensionality and strength. That balance is truly wonderful, so the moment I put it on, it gave me strength and something like confidence, and I would like to take that home with me today.” Jisoo: “Today I am wearing the ‘Stellara’ necklace. The harmony created by the sapphire with its dazzling blue light at the center and the diamonds that spread delicately like waves is elegance itself. I was captivated at first sight.” Sofia Coppola: “I have never worn such a lovely necklace and earrings, so I was truly surprised when I saw them, and I feel truly fortunate to be able to actually wear them.” Nanako Matsushima: “I felt that it was a very comfortable piece of jewelry, designed to follow the collarbone. It is said to be designed with inspiration from the sea, but I got the impression of the gemstone parts being all the same size, like bubbles rising from the seabed like waves. I also think the way lapis lazuli is used in the surrounding setting is very Cartier-like.” Ryo Yoshizawa: “The presence of this 33-carat sapphire is tremendous, and the dynamism of the ‘Panthère’—it is very three-dimensional and a high jewelry piece with a simple design but a strong presence, and I think it is wonderful.” Q. Such exceptional high jewelry radiates a special brilliance, but what kind of special scenes or styling would you like to match it with? Haruka Ayase: “Since it is such a wonderful piece of jewelry, I would like to spend a special day with important people, wearing a simple jacket or dress that allows the jewelry itself to shine.” Mio Imada: “Wearing it in Kyoto, such a wonderful place with a long history, lifts my spirits, and I feel a little more elegant and graceful, so I am very happy to have been able to wear it here in Kyoto.” Kento Kaku: “It would be difficult to wear high jewelry like this in everyday life, but if possible, since I usually like casual clothes, I would like to someday try wearing something like this high jewelry with a T-shirt or a simple jacket.” Nanako Matsushima: “After all, it is a special occasion, so a place like today is very appropriate.” Ryo Yoshizawa: “I feel that just one accent with a tuxedo like today, or in a formal setting, changes the atmosphere very much and makes for a wonderful styling.” Q. How do you feel about encountering high jewelry in Kyoto, where long history and craftsmanship live on? Sofia Coppola: “I think coming to Kyoto is always a wonderful experience. It is a beautiful place, and I can feel the craftsmanship with my own skin. I am filled with happiness. I think it is a place where craftsmanship can be felt.” Q. In Le Chœur des Pierres, gemstones with unique individuality gather and harmonize as one beautiful symphony. Is there anything you value in order to maintain good relationships and harmony with the diverse people around you in work and private life? Mio Imada: “I value enjoying everything with all my might, both in work and in private life.” Sofia Coppola: “I remember the feeling when making films, where truly many different people gather together and work together based on one vision, so I try to value the importance of collaboration.” Ryo Yoshizawa: “I am not very good at communication on set, but when everyone is trying to improve one work while facing the same direction, recently I have been participating in works in the position of lead actor more often, so even though I am not good at it, listening to the staff and cast around me, and listening to people, is important because acting is also communication. Receiving the other person’s feelings and words and playing catch with them is, I think, very important both for creating the set and for creating the work.” Q. Cartier’s jewelry has an appeal that captivates people’s hearts and does not let go, but recently, what has captured your heart or what have you become absorbed in? Haruka Ayase: “Recently I have been training at the gym, and when I suddenly looked out the window, the trees were just at the change of seasons, and the yellow and green leaves were soaking up the sunlight and swaying in the wind, and they were sparkling like jewels. I was so absorbed in the fact that there is such beauty even in everyday life.” Kento Kaku: “Right now, I suddenly feel like exercising, and I am doing martial arts a lot. Because of that, my metabolism is always very high and I sweat a lot, but that is how I feel now, and I have found something I can be passionate about again after a long time. I am doing kickboxing, and I am looking forward to having matches.” Q. Cartier’s high jewelry uses gemstones that radiate a unique charm that does not change even as time passes. Is there anything you have cherished for a long time? Nanako Matsushima: “I cherish jewelry that has very memorable associations from each period, but the first one for me was a small ruby heart-shaped ring I bought when I went on a leisurely trip with my mother after finishing filming a morning drama. I sometimes look at it and remember my初心, and I treasure it very much.” - Jin Akanishi attended from Japan - Words of thanks to Yuri Nakamura...
