BOYNEXTDOOR’s first-ever world tour’s Japan performances, “BOYNEXTDOOR TOUR 'KNOCK ON Vol.2' IN JAPAN,” are finally getting underway. It opened with performances at K-Arena Yokohama held for three consecutive days from August 21 to 23. This tour began with the Seoul performance in South Korea in July and will travel through 24 cities in North America and Asia. More than the scale of its size, the performances and production were also upgraded, and it kept captivating ONEDOOR (the fans’ name) from beginning to end. In this article, we bring you the scene from the first day, the 21st. Once the scheduled time passed, dazzling flashes filled the venue. Powerful band sounds began, and as the members’ faces were projected one after another on the screen along with a heavy rhythm, loud cheers rose up. At the center of the stage, luminous bodies in the shape of people appeared, and when they multiplied and began to walk, “06070” started. The title refers to the postal code of the place where the practice room they often used before their debut was located, and it means the group’s true starting point. They likely wanted to first show their sincere feeling of wanting to face the audience without forgetting their original intention. Then, starting with “VIRAL,” which carries the wish that their songs will spread to more people, they played familiar numbers one after another, including “But Sometimes” and “I Feel Good,” and the venue was already in a festive mood. The six members, who greeted energetically with “Who’s there? BOYNEXTDOOR! Good evening, we are BOYNEXTDOOR!”, looked truly happy seeing the ONEDOORs filling the large venue. That heightened feeling was also reflected in the songs they performed next. In “Count To Love,” they were light and bright, and in the just-released new song “Boom Boom Boom,” they radiated overflowing youthful energy. Not only that, but in “Live In Paris,” sung while relaxing in a space modeled after an airport departure lobby, they showed a stylish presence, and through the retro synth-pop “So let’s go see the stars,” they promised eternal love to their fans, delivering a wide range of charms. They introduced “Forever You” by saying, “This is a song filled with the feelings we absolutely wanted to convey to our family and ONEDOOR,” and began singing it. Along with the following “Call Me,” they seemed to cool things down with moving lyrics and melodies, but then they gradually raised the excitement again with “Hollywood Action” and “Upside Down,” and further created a sense of unity with the audience through the Latin beat of “Nice Guy” and the fast rap of “Earth, Wind & Fire.” In the latter half of the concert, songs that focused on their hip-hop sensibility stood out. “ddok ddok ddok,” which uses the motif of chimes and knocking sounds; “JAM!,” which attacks with a minimal and simple track; and “Dangerous,” with its realistic lyrics. The varied pacing they showed in these numbers, as well as the dance incorporating freestyle, proved the group’s high potential. At last, the main set reached its finale. They shouted “Yokohama!” and “Everyone, jump!” many times while passionately singing “Gonna Be A Rock” and “ADIOS!” to close the main show, but the venue’s heat would not easily subside. Perhaps sensing that situation, the six members soon moved to the center stage. When AiNA THE END appeared as a special guest for the encore, cries of surprise and loud applause erupted from all over the audience. The song they performed together, “VIRAL (AiNA THE END Remix),” is a version released just in July, and her soulful, bittersweet singing voice stood out. After the duet, she casually spoke to BOYNEXTDOOR, who were somewhat nervous at their first collaboration, and to the many ONEDOORs she called out, “Your favorite is cool!” Many people must have become completely fans after seeing her. Wanting to cherish the happy space created with AiNA THE END, they kept the mood going with positive numbers such as “SAY CHEESE!” and “Today Only I LOVE YOU (Japanese Ver.).” The ONEDOORs waving their light sticks also looked very happy. After completing the long concert, the members each spoke words of thanks. Taesan said, “I am truly happy that so many people have gathered like this.” Sungho said, “We will keep doing our best, so please stay with us forever.” Jaehyun said, “I want to get better at Japanese and always talk with the Japanese ONEDOORs.” Leehan said, “What did everyone eat today? I ate a lot of ONEDOOR’s love.” Riwoo said, “I am sorry for wearing sunglasses because of an eye condition. Instead, I sang and danced with all my might!” And Woonhak said, “I hope you will sometimes look back on today’s memories in the days to come.” After the final greetings, they moved into the ending. With hot performances in the background, they sang “I Wonder” and introduced the band members who supported them, then disappeared toward the back of the stage. However, the heated audience strongly wished for them to appear again. In response to that feeling, a second encore began, and they performed four songs including “Boom Boom Boom” and “I Feel Good.” The six members seemed to have given everything they had, and all of their expressions were refreshed. The ONEDOORs cheering them on also looked satisfied. BOYNEXTDOOR drew 60,000 people and successfully completed the three Yokohama performances. After this, shows await in five cities: Saga on August 29 and 30, Osaka on September 9 and 10, Miyagi on September 19 and 20, Nagano on September 25 and 26, and Chiba on October 10 and 11. In addition, BOYNEXTDOOR will be the first K-pop boy group to perform at SAGA Arena for the next Saga concert. This tour, with its showmanship-filled production, seems likely to become a “new door” for them to move on to the next phase.
