SM and Tencent Music formed a China joint venture, STE, and appointed SUPER JUNIOR-M’s Zhou Mi as CEO to lead new idol and artist support.

SM Entertainment (hereinafter, SM) partnered with Tencent Music Entertainment Group (hereinafter, TME), the largest music platform company in China, and established a local joint venture company. Zhou Mi of SUPER JUNIOR-M was suddenly appointed as representative director. SM announced on the 27th that it had established a joint venture company, “STE,” with TME in Beijing, China, and appointed Zhou Mi as representative director. This establishment of the corporation is part of building a strategic cooperation system based on the memorandum of understanding (MOU) that the two companies signed in May of this year. The launched STE will fully begin a project to launch a local Chinese rookie idol group aiming to debut within the next 2 to 3 years. STE is scheduled to comprehensively lead everything from conducting large-scale auditions for rookie casting to overall local management after debut. Local support for existing SM-affiliated Greater China artists will also be significantly strengthened. STE plans to professionally handle the Greater China activity management of NCT DREAM’s Renjun, as well as WayV’s Yangyang and Xiaojun, and actively support detailed local promotions and broadcast activities tailored to the local market. Representative Zhou Mi, who will lead the joint venture, has been active for about 20 years as a member of SUPER JUNIOR-M and as a solo singer, and has cultivated a high level of expertise in the K-pop production system. He has also served as a director of SM’s China corporation, and was nominated as the most suitable person to serve as a bridge between the two companies, being recognized for his practical management sense and outstanding insight into local trends.
