Pledis says it is pursuing legal action against malicious posts, defamation, and illegal ticket resales targeting SEVENTEEN.

SEVENTEEN’s agency revealed that it is continuously taking legal action against malicious posts on the internet and illegal ticket resales. Pledis Entertainment announced today (the 28th) through SEVENTEEN’s official account that, in order to protect the rights of its artist SEVENTEEN and to strictly deal with malicious acts, it is continuously pursuing legal measures regarding the spread of false facts, defamation, and sexual slander against the artist, based on monitoring materials the company has collected so far and reports sent in by fans. The company also explained the main ongoing complaint cases. Based on the evidence collected, it is filing complaints against users who engaged in such acts, and said that judicial procedures are proceeding in multiple cases. It stated, “Among the ongoing complaint cases, to explain the case of a defendant indicted on suspicion of malicious defamation against the artist, a fine of 2 million won (about 220,000 yen) was recently handed down in the first trial.” Regarding the above case, the defendant has objected to the first-trial fine and the appeal trial is underway. Pledis Entertainment further emphasized, “We will continue to respond strictly until the end so that the defendant in the appeal trial also receives appropriate punishment,” and added, “We are also responding without mercy to this case and other cases currently under investigation by investigative authorities. We will continue to take legal action without any compromise against crimes that infringe the artist’s rights that occur in the future.” It also expressed its intention to actively deal with illegal ticket resales by resellers, saying, “In order to crack down on and punish professional resellers who have illegally resold concert tickets for our artist, we have actively cooperated with investigations by investigative authorities. As a result, some of the recently cracked-down professional resellers were each sentenced to actual prison terms of 1 year and 8 months and 1 year and 4 months, and additional collections totaling more than 1 billion won (about 100 million yen) were imposed.” Regarding the illegal acts of resellers that are currently widespread, it also announced, “Investigative procedures are continuing for resellers other than those mentioned above, especially those based overseas.” It added, “We are actively cooperating with requests from investigative authorities. We will continue to relentlessly pursue and strictly respond to illegal ticket resales by professional resellers.” Pledis Entertainment also revealed that it is constantly monitoring and screening malicious comments about SEVENTEEN. It said, “Using our real-time monitoring system, we collect in real time acts that infringe on the artist’s rights across domestic and overseas online channels, including major online communities, music platforms, and SNS,” and added, “Even if a post is deleted immediately, the monitoring system makes it possible to trace the author and secure evidence. False facts that damage the artist’s reputation, defamation, slander regarding appearance or nationality, mockery, insulting expressions, things that lead to sexual humiliation, and sexual objectification are clear crimes punishable under relevant laws, and our company will respond strongly based on a zero-tolerance policy without any leniency or settlement.” SEVENTEEN, with several members currently serving in the military, is continuing activities mainly as solo and unit projects. “SEVENTEEN member Hoshi, who is enlisted, undergoes surgery for an ACL injury and will not attend military-related events [with video]. SEVENTEEN’s Jeonghan lost 13 kg during military service... he confessed to health issues, saying, “My stomach and intestines were not in good condition.”
