ASTRO's Cha Eun-woo has been reported to have received a notification of tax reassessment exceeding 20 billion won (about 2 billion yen) from the National Tax Service, and there are suspicions that he enlisted to avoid controversy. Today (22nd), his agency Fantagio showed a cautious stance regarding the connection between Cha Eun-woo's tax evasion allegations and his enlistment, stating to OSEN, "It is difficult to confirm anything other than what has been officially announced, so we ask for your understanding." On the same day, a Korean media outlet reported that Cha Eun-woo recently received a notification of tax reassessment exceeding 20 billion won for allegations of tax evasion, including income tax. According to the report, income was distributed through a corporation A established by Cha Eun-woo's mother. In response, the National Tax Service reportedly judged that corporation A does not provide substantial services and is considered a so-called paper company. It is believed that to reduce the income tax rate, which reaches 45%, an entity without substance was created to distribute income, applying a corporate tax rate that is more than 20 percentage points lower than the income tax rate. In fact, the initial location of corporation A was Ganghwa Island, which was also considered a factor in the judgment that it is unlikely to be engaged in entertainment-related business. Cha Eun-woo enlisted in July last year as a member of the Army Military Band and is currently serving. The Korean media that initially reported his allegations stated, "The National Tax Service sent a notification of the tax audit results containing such content after waiting for his enlistment to be completed at the request of Cha Eun-woo's side." Therefore, some believe that he enlisted to avoid controversy. However, Fantagio stated, "This case is primarily about whether the corporation established by Cha Eun-woo's mother qualifies as a substantial taxable entity, and it is not a case that has been finalized and announced. We plan to actively explain the issues related to legal interpretation and application in accordance with legal procedures." They also mentioned that the artist and tax representatives will cooperate sincerely to ensure that the relevant procedures are completed promptly. Cha Eun-woo promises to fulfill his tax declaration and legal obligations sincerely as a citizen. Cha Eun-woo is set to release Netflix's 'Wonderfools'.
