Yuna from Girls' Generation revealed her feelings about playing the role of a Michelin three-star chef. On the afternoon of the 19th, at the production presentation for tvN's new weekend drama 'The Tyrant's Chef' held at D-CUBE CITY in Guro-gu, Seoul, Yuna, Lee Che-min, Seo Yi-suk, Oh Wi-sik, and director Jang Tae-yu attended. Yuna, who plays the role of Yong Ji-yong, a chef from a Michelin three-star restaurant in Paris who comes from the future, explained her reason for choosing this drama: 'I was given the chance to work with director Jang Tae-yu, and I chose without hesitation. I had always wanted to meet him.' She added, 'I was attracted to the character Yong Ji-yong, who has a hopeful side, is dignified, and wise.' As a capable chef, she underwent thorough preparation, stating, 'I attended cooking classes three months before starting the project. I learned everything from knife skills to how to handle ingredients. I also experienced the process of learning each dish that appears in the drama from a culinary consultant.' She continued, 'Through this process, cooking, which I had enjoyed as a hobby, has now become familiar, and I can hear professional terms. However, using a knife is still difficult.' She expressed satisfaction about her co-star Lee Che-min, saying, 'I had high expectations, and we matched well. Especially, Che-min has incredible focus, and while acting together, we talked a lot as Lee Hong and Yong Ji-yong.' She also mentioned, 'We discussed the script and characters a lot, which made filming comfortable. From the moment I appeared in hanbok, I thought, 'This is Lee Hong,' and his voice as a king and focus as Lee Hong were excellent, which helped me immerse myself in Yong Ji-yong.' Initially, the role of Lee Hong, the male lead opposite Yong Ji-yong, was to be played by actor Park Sung-hoon. However, due to controversies surrounding Park Sung-hoon's SNS posts, Lee Che-min was cast as a replacement. In response to questions about this, Lee Che-min said, 'It’s true that there was not much time, so the pressure and sense of responsibility were great. The director called me several times before filming, and we did group readings with senior actors like Yuna, which helped me grasp the character's atmosphere and tone before filming.' He added, 'The senior actors I filmed with provided a lot of feedback and advice on my acting, so I hope that part is well reflected in the footage. The director's detailed direction was also a great help for me.' 'The Tyrant's Chef' is a 'survival fantasy romantic comedy' that unfolds when chef Yong Ji-yong (Yuna), who time travels to the past at the moment she reaches number one, meets the worst tyrant and best gourmet, King Lee Hong (Lee Che-min). It will start airing in Korea on August 23 at 9:10 PM.
