A unique school drama was born. The production announcement of the TVING original series "Pyramid Game" (script: Che Sui, directed by: Park Soyeon) was held on the 26th at the CGV Ryongsan iPark Mall in Seoul. The work, based on the web manga of the same name, depicts a cruel survival sequence war in which students are divided into perpetrators, victims, and bystanders and gradually become addicted to violence against the backdrop of the 2nd year class 5 of Pekyeong Girls' High School, which selects the target of bullying by secret ballot every month. Director Park Soyeon revealed, "I am also a big fan of the original work. I wanted to express the power given by the original work strongly. Rather than thinking about what to exclude from the original work and what to live, I thought about living the overall message. It is a work that feels the strong power of the story and the infinite charm of the characters. I made an effort to complement and live such parts." She explained, "Pekyeong Girls' High School 2nd year class 5 itself is cut off from the outside. It seems that the game was born in the indifference and unconsciousness of adults. I thought that the fact that bullying is decided through the game can also be seen as born from indifference, and I wanted to emphasize such parts." She also expressed confidence, saying, "I felt the great charm of the original work and loved the original work. I thought that when it was dramatized and I was in charge of directing, I felt the power given by the story more strongly when I saw the script of 'Pyramid Game.' 25 students appear. The change in characters and psychological changes from the first episode to the 10th episode are very attractive. The original work has secured a large number of fans, but I thought that many fans probably want to dramatize it. I thought that when it was visualized, it would be more sympathetic and would listen to many stories." Bona, who played the role of Song Suji, said, "I made an effort to synchronize the original work and my own style to increase the synchronization rate. While acting, I tried to concentrate as much as possible on the characters in the original work and the Suji I draw." She added, "It was painful to shoot bullying (content) while acting. I really thought it had to be eliminated. Adults' attention is necessary." Ryu Dain, who played Myung Jaewon, said, "I enjoyed the original work very much. I made an effort to increase the synchronization rate with Jaewon. I thought that it would be meaningless if Jaewon looked pitiful, and I acted while thinking that bullying should not exist and thinking about many things while shooting. I think that all such parts are all in line with indifference." Shin Sulgi said, "I was quite conscious of synchronizing with the character of So Doha. I communicated a lot with the director. I wanted to bring my appearance as close to the original work as possible, so I cut my hair and chose glasses with difficulty. I made the makeup as thin as possible to make the realistic part look good. Because the subject is "bullying," I thought about many things to show how human nature appears in the face of violence and irrationality, and it was an experience that made me think about many things." Kang Naon, who played the role of Im Yelim, also said, "I read the web manga interestingly. Yelim was also a charming character. I wanted to synchronize my appearance with Yelim and focus on my bright and friendly personality to show Yelim that only I can play. I made an effort to create Yelim that only I can play by concentrating on practicing dance and singing, which cannot be seen in the web manga." She added, "No one could stop the bullying, but couldn't adults actively help? I felt that this part seemed to be even more difficult in reality and it was painful." She also said, "I acted while shooting such scenes in the early stages, but there were moments when it was difficult. I tried to concentrate on the situation as much as possible and immerse myself in the emotions of the characters in the play, and I got better. I shot safely while monitoring when the martial arts team and the director were there." She continued, "There were many firsts, such as badmouthing, but I felt refreshed. It was good that Suji (Bona) was not just done. I was able to act comfortably and refreshingly." Ryu Dain, who is another victim of bullying, said, "It was difficult to shoot such scenes in the early stages, but I concentrated on what the character would think and what I would think when I acted in a way that matched the character as much as possible. It was difficult at first, but it was good that there were such parts as time passed and changed." Director Park Soyeon conveyed the atmosphere at the time of shooting, saying, "Most of the scenes were taken in the classroom, so I was wearing a uniform most of the time. When I went to the site, the actors were already sitting in their seats. All 25 people looked like students in that class. The atmosphere was pleasant, and it was a set that was packed with our efforts." Bona, who co-starred with rookie actresses, said, "It was the first time for me to be on the set with older people, so I felt pressured at first. I thought I had to be careful about everything and was very worried about what to do. I had been approaching it with the idea that I should concentrate only on myself as the youngest and do well while co-starring with many seniors on the set, but this time I thought we should make it together and had a lot of conversations and shot it." The work also features Chang Daa, the older sister of IVE's Won Young. She was unable to attend the press conference because she was infected with the new coronavirus on the same day. Director Park Soyeon said, "Today, Chang Daa was unable to participate due to the new coronavirus, and she is very sorry. I received a call just before entering here. I think she is watching the live broadcast." She continued, "Chang Daa, who played the role of Pek Harin, and other characters were all cast through auditions. The most important thing in casting was the synchronization rate with the original work. We compared everything, including the image, behavior, and tone of voice that we imagined and the original work, not only the appearance. I thought that Chang Daa was Pek Harin herself. I thought that her acting ability and synchronization rate were the most suitable for that character. All 25 people are really hardworking. They always prepared something before asking for something. They exchanged opinions on the set and came up with ideas. Chang Daa came to the office even on days when there was no shooting and had a one-on-one reading with me. She made a visible effort to play Pek Harin, and I saw her grow." She praised.
