Choi Jung-won comments on infidelity lawsuit, stating court ruled he is not guilty and plans legal action against false claims.

Former UN member Choi Jung-won made a comment regarding the infidelity lawsuit. On November 26, Choi Jung-won posted on his SNS, "I will officially share the content of the first-instance court ruling regarding the recently raised infidelity lawsuit." He continued, "As a result of a long trial, the court's ruling confirmed that the raised infidelity allegations were not acknowledged, and I am not a person who committed infidelity." He further emphasized, "Many misunderstandings and secondary damages have arisen due to claims that are different from the facts and baseless speculations. I plan to take legal action against potential secondary damages, the spread of false facts, and distorted rumors in the future." He conveyed, "I will sincerely approach the remaining procedures. I apologize to those who felt uncomfortable during this process and will repay with a more mature attitude in the future." Additionally, he stated, "Regarding various claims recently raised online, the facts have been clearly confirmed by the court's ruling in the appeal trial. The false claims spread by Mr. A, such as 'infidelity man,' are not true, and the content that Mr. A instructed his spouse to spread, 'Choi Jung-won demanded money and requested to meet,' is also false." He explained, "The ruling recognized the act of instructing the spread of such false content (defamation solicitation) as guilty. In the appeal trial, Mr. A was sentenced to a fine of 3 million won (about 300,000 yen) for defamation, defamation solicitation, and threats. The ruling document will be shared within the range excluding personal information." He also mentioned, "Various other lawsuits regarding defamation and unlawful acts are ongoing. The meal that became a topic was merely a gathering among acquaintances, and there was no inappropriate relationship. I hope that misunderstandings and damages caused by false claims do not continue any longer." Choi Jung-won faced infidelity allegations in 2022 and was sued for damages amounting to 100 million won (about 10 million yen) by Mr. B, the husband of Ms. A. In response, Choi Jung-won explained, "Ms. A is not an ex-girlfriend but a neighborhood sister who has been close with my family since childhood," strongly denying the infidelity allegations. The Seoul High Court ruled in the appeal trial of Mr. A and Ms. A's divorce lawsuit that the relationship between Choi Jung-won and Ms. A did not constitute infidelity, and the main cause of the marriage breakdown was the husband's coercive attitude. As a result, the first-instance ruling that deemed their relationship as 'misconduct' and placed the primary responsibility for the marriage breakdown on Ms. A was overturned.
