MONSTA X, which has built a one-of-a-kind position in the K-pop scene, has opened a new chapter. Today (the 4th) at 1 p.m., MONSTA X released the audio for all the songs on its new EP The Phase and the music video for the title track MAGIC through various music streaming sites. This new work, The Phase, is a piece that fully captures MONSTA X’s “present,” which can never be fully told by just one emotion or a fragmentary image. While capturing moments where different energies, stances, and diverse emotions intersect, it three-dimensionally depicts the most vivid form the group is currently taking. In particular, it expressed MONSTA X’s “present,” which it has built over a long period of time, through six songs with different moods. It shows an unwavering attitude of not settling into a career in its 12th year since debut, but always challenging new things and expanding the scope of its activities. The title track MAGIC is a song that compares the moment when they are strongly drawn to each other to “magic,” and depicts uncontrollable emotions and a fateful encounter. A rhythmic electric guitar loop, a punchy drum beat that sounds like it is pounding the heart, and sensory rap unfold one after another. Furthermore, in the chorus, refreshing vocals highlight the song’s explosive energy and dynamic development, creating catharsis. In particular, Jooheon’s unique sensibility, who also participated in writing the lyrics, further enhanced the completeness of the song. The music video released at the same time has a finish that is reminiscent of a cinematic art film. Using long takes, smooth scene transitions, lighting, and dynamic camera work, it depicts the surreal energy of the song. Having sharpened their solid abilities through numerous “Phases,” MONSTA X has once again broken through its own limits and announced the opening of a new chapter. Expectations are rising for what new waves MONSTA X, which has continued to grow without stopping, will create in the music industry through this new work.
