As a member of SF9, Rowoon, who is active as an actor, revealed his thoughts on taking on a new challenge in 'Turbulence.' Recently, in an interview about the Disney+ original series 'Turbulence' (written by Jeong Seong-il, directed by Chu Chang-min) held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, Rowoon expressed satisfaction with his transformation while playing the role of Jang Si-yul. 'Turbulence' is an action drama set in Gyeonggang, where all gold and resources of Joseon gather, depicting the fates of those who have different dreams to live humanely in a chaotic world. In the drama, Rowoon plays the role of the rogue Jang Si-yul at the Mapo ferry. Rowoon said, 'I used to have many beautiful and handsome roles, but when I told my friends from high school that this time I was playing a rogue, they said, 'You don’t have to act.' Previously, when I played handsome roles, people said, 'It seems difficult to act,' but recently, when I said 'rogue,' they said, 'You don’t have to act.' I'm very happy to show everyone this after a long time since 'Wedding Battle.' He also seems satisfied with his physical transformation. Rowoon mentioned, 'I did costume tests for four days, four hours each, and every moment was fun. I was happy to think that I could create such an atmosphere. Just looking at the script, you can't know how it will turn out. Once I tried it, I felt there were many moments that felt right. I could visualize what Si-yul looks like, and it became enjoyable. Except for the long time it took for the costume, everything was good.' He added, 'The fans' reactions were also interesting. I wondered how surprised they would be, and that was fun too. At first, some people didn’t recognize me, and those who expected a rom-com or romance had a positive reaction instead.' He worked hard to create a 'wild body' rather than a toned physique. Rowoon said, 'I lost body fat for an underwear advertisement, but the director said he wanted a body like a stray cat. Not a perfect body with abs, but a wild-looking body. He said a body that lacks reality is not good. When I reworked my body and asked, 'Is this good?' he said, 'It's very beautiful.' To express Jang Si-yul, Rowoon had many conversations with director Chu Chang-min, stating, 'I had been preparing for action filming for two months. Rather than preparing something, I just talked a lot with the director. While talking with the director, I felt like I could share my whole life, and I couldn't lie. We talked about various ups and downs in life, and I built a human connection while drinking with Park Ji-hwan. The director told me, 'You're lonelier than I thought. Try to express that part well.' I felt a sense of relaxation while acting. I could resolve various aspects through Si-yul, and it felt refreshing. After each filming, I thought, 'Turbulence is delicious.' I feel like I poured out all the acting I could do at 28.' Was it difficult to play a character with few lines? Rowoon replied, 'During the test shoot, the director told me to 'put something into it.' When I imagined the scene where Park Old Man dies and tried it, he said it was good. I thought I would try to act as empty as possible, like a colorless person. I wanted to act like a withered flower.' The extreme heat during filming was also a challenge. Rowoon said, 'It was really tough. It was almost maddening. I think everyone there, all the staff and actors, were in a state of almost losing their minds. However, it felt like we were possessed by something, and no one showed fatigue. There’s a synergy in moving together. It was hot, but I only felt that after some time.' After the release of 'Turbulence,' Rowoon often searches for his name, saying, 'I was very happy to see reactions like 'good at action' and 'explaining with just a gaze without lines.' I wanted to add a comment saying, 'Thanks to the director.' I'm really proud. I searched and looked several times a day, but since it was a character with a different atmosphere from the roles I've played so far, I was very worried about how it would be received, and it was an image I wanted to try. I think my range of roles may expand further after I go to the military. Handsomeness doesn’t last long.' Rowoon stated that 'Turbulence' is a work that gave him confidence. He said, 'When I worked with director Chu Chang-min, I wondered if I could enjoy the process completely. When doing it alone, it can be too vague, and you can feel lost. I was wrapped in vague fear, but that was also fun. I think this work made me feel that I can enjoy the process, not just have confidence in whatever role I’m given. While doing 'Turbulence,' a weapon of confidence was born. I’m serious about acting, and I love doing and watching it, which gave me confidence that I can become a good actor and a good person.'
