ZEROBASEONE’s Seok Matthew and Park Gunwook will go out as the group’s first unit. On September 18, Seok Matthew and Park Gunwook announced the formation of the unit by revealing the logo for “ZEROBASEONE EMP” through ZEROBASEONE’s official social media. The released video contained the logo of “ZEROBASEONE EMP,” whose rough texture and sensational design stood out. There was no release of individual songs or concepts; only the logo appealed as the unit’s first impression, foreshadowing the new color the two will present. Then, at 0:00 on the 19th, they released the album poster for “EMP Mixtape Vol.1: We the Extra.” Along with the album title, the poster included the news that the first mixtape would be released on September 21, and that a digital single would be released in November. At 0:00 on the 20th, the digital cover was also released, drawing attention. This mixtape will include a total of four songs, including the double title tracks “EMP” and “Pina C,” as well as “Woofer” and “In your rain.” Seok Matthew and Park Gunwook participated in writing and composing all of the songs.
