DAY6's Wonpil has made a comeback as a solo artist. He recently spoke about his upcoming 1st mini-album 'Unpiltered' and the title track 'Love's Ward'. The album title 'Unpiltered' is a play on words combining 'Unfiltered', meaning without a filter, and his name 'Wonpil', expressing his desire to show his true self rather than a polished version. Wonpil confidently stated, 'I packed 100% of what I wanted to do into this album.' He focused on clearly differentiating it from DAY6's distinct team color. He mentioned, 'If you look at the atmosphere of the songs, there are tracks that do not contain DAY6's color. There are sounds and messages that you haven't heard in DAY6, especially songs that are as 'broken' as this one, which I couldn't show during band activities. I wanted to show that side of myself in my solo activities. The title track 'Love's Ward' will leave a strong impression in terms of sound and message.' In fact, the title track 'Love's Ward' took over two months to produce, reflecting his dedication. He, who usually cannot express himself directly, used this song as a kind of 'release space'. 'There are many things I can't say, but I felt a great sense of liberation while singing,' he shared, hoping listeners can also resolve something through this song. Although he has always faced fans with a bright, warm smile, the lyrics of this album are so intense that fans jokingly responded with 'Explain it!' In response, Wonpil laughed and explained, 'The one who wrote the song is another side of me. The real me is not like this. But when I wrote this song, I had to be a 'crazy person'. I want to always show fans only my bright and good side, and I don't want to show any painful side. I want to continue to be an artist who conveys various emotions within me through music rather than words.' Regarding the recent band boom, he humbly waved his hand, stating, 'It was possible because of our seniors CNBLUE, FTISLAND, and BUZZ.' He added, 'Rather than a band boom, I think it's a fortunate case where the end of the COVID era coincided with the revitalization of festival culture, and the music people were seeking came out at the right time. There are many amazing teams like Silica Gel, and especially our agency's juniors, Xdinary Heroes, are doing truly remarkable quality music. I think only that team can produce that kind of sound.' Having been active for over 10 years since debut, Wonpil expressed that increasing responsibility is not a bad thing for an artist, and through this album, he wishes to be recognized for 'musical diversity' rather than just great achievements. He stated, 'I want to be told, 'Wonpil is talented, he can do this too.' Above all, I hope those who listen to my album do not give up on life and gain strength, as that is also the reason I continue making music.' Wonpil will hold a solo concert at the Chamshil Indoor Gymnasium in Korea in May, promising fans that 'there will be something surprising.'
