GOT7's Jinyoung spoke about his affection for 'Unknown Soul.' Recently, he met with the My Daily press team at the BH Entertainment building in Gangnam, Seoul, for an interview about the tvN weekend drama 'Unknown Soul.' 'Unknown Soul' is a growth drama where twin sisters, who are different in everything but their faces, switch lives to find true love and life. In the drama, Jinyoung plays Lee Ho-se, a lawyer and high school classmate of Yu Miji and Yu Mire (Park Boyoung). He delicately portrays the complex emotions of Lee Ho-se, who has a calm and rational side, drawing empathy from viewers with his realistic acting. Jinyoung said, 'It was a warm set. We can't know the results, but I was very happy during filming, and fortunately, it seems that many viewers felt the healing atmosphere we experienced, for which I am very grateful.' He continued, 'Like Miji's line, today ends, and we don't know about tomorrow. I'm trying to enjoy this moment with a happy feeling.' He added, 'Sometimes, good reactions come from the agency. I'm not good at searching, so I don't really understand the reactions, but I smiled alone when I heard that the work is loved a lot.' He mentioned that he started filming the drama about two weeks after being discharged from the military. When asked why he returned to work immediately without rest, Jinyoung explained, 'As my military life progressed, my desire to work grew stronger. Especially when shoveling snow, I thought, 'I want to stop and go to the filming set.' Because when I first enlisted, I brainwashed myself, thinking, 'I'm going to the set of 'D.P.' and entering a long-term project in military uniform for a year and a half.' He shared an episode where he joked with people in the same industry he met while dancing in the military, saying, 'When will your project end?' 'I was told by the director that I still had a year left.' He also said, 'I wanted to work quickly. I rested first, but I didn't want to rest with a heavy heart, so I enjoyed that time a lot. I played with my peers and studied. However, as interesting dramas and movies came out daily, I thought, 'I want to do that too.' But I didn't think I would join so soon. I needed time to grow my hair. However, when I received the script, it was so wonderful that I thought, 'Is this a sign to work right away?' I said, 'I want to travel after being discharged. Give me about a month,' but the script was so great that I absolutely wanted to participate.' After receiving the script, he filled his mind with the character of Lee Ho-se, saying, 'There are good people, but there are also those who seem good the longer you know them. I felt like I wanted friends like that. It wasn't just a part that made me feel that way; it seeped in as I looked at the whole script.' He admitted that he initially didn't think he could portray Ho-se well, finding it very difficult. 'He seems like a very calm person, but he doesn't show it, so I struggled. However, when I read it again based on Ho-se's pain, it felt different. 'This person is really trying hard.' I thought about how to express that, and I drew inspiration from the skills I worked on in 'The Holy Avenger,' thinking that if I detailed Ho-se, the character would become richer, and gradually, I gained confidence.' He reflected that Lee Ho-se has outstanding visuals and abilities but is actually a person who dreams of an ordinary life due to the aftereffects of a traffic accident. Jinyoung said, 'At first, I was confused, but I thought about the story that people with a heavy heart try to smile and appear normal. Ho-se has a small handicap, but I thought he wouldn't want to show it. If he shows that he is trying hard like a person without a handicap, he will look like Ho-se. Therefore, I focused on details such as tone, tempo, timing to start talking, and efforts to listen when looking at others.' He explained the process of creating the character of Ho-se. There were reactions that the overall content of the work and various characters, including Lee Ho-se, represent social minorities. Jinyoung noted that this aspect resonated with young people. He said, 'I didn't think of them as social minorities. What impressed me while reading the script is that I think it's the same in any era, but recently, everyone seems to be living without any problems. Ho-se looks like a successful lawyer from afar, Miji is living energetically, and Mire is working hard at a public corporation. However, when you look closely, everyone has their own pain. I thought it was like SNS. When you look at SNS, everyone seems to be living a glamorous life, but that's not all there is. Therefore, I feel like it reflects modern society, and rather than representing the weak, I think it represents all humanity. I believe it can express everyone's heart.' When asked if he has any similarities with Lee Ho-se, he jokingly said, 'You probably think I don't resemble him at all, right? I feel sorry to say I resemble him because he is such a good person.' He added, 'If I had to find something, I think I resemble him in being patient. I feel like I can endure a lot. I think you gain some insight from doing this job. Because you want to achieve results quickly. I had that feeling when I was younger, but now it's different. I think it's enough to just love this job, and even if it's not right away, I believe that one day, people will understand.' He reflected on his trainee days, saying, 'Before debuting, I couldn't see ahead, so I think I learned patience then.' With the success of 'Unknown Soul' and the movie 'High Five,' he has gained immense popularity in the first half of this year. Jinyoung said, 'It's rare for two works to be released simultaneously, and it's even rarer for both to be loved. I'm truly grateful. I'm thankful that they were released at this timing, and I wanted to show these works quickly. 'The Witch' and 'High Five' were filmed a while ago, so I wanted to show them quickly, but they were released just as I was discharged, feeling like a gift for all the hard work until now. I thought, 'Did they wait for me to be discharged?' but that wasn't the case. I'm just grateful for this situation.' Regarding his future goals, he revealed, 'I want to challenge myself with many works. I want to record many moments of myself now. I want to appear in many works. Therefore, my goal is to keep working until I run out of energy. I don't know when that will be, but I will work hard.'
