Son Mino of WINNER, who was indicted for suspected unauthorized absence during his service as a social service worker, is facing a prosecution demand of 1 year and 6 months in prison. Today (21st) at 10 AM, the 10th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court (Judge Song Jun-kyu) held the first trial for Son Mino, who is under discussion for violating the Military Service Act, and a certain Mr. Lee, who is responsible for service management. Initially, the first trial was scheduled for the 24th of last month, but the defendant requested a postponement through his legal representative, which the court accepted, leading to a rescheduling. On this day, the prosecution demanded a sentence of 1 year and 6 months for Son Mino, who acknowledged all the charges. Additionally, before the trial, Son Mino stated, "I will sincerely undergo the trial. I deeply regret it. I am truly sorry for disappointing many people." Son Mino is suspected of having habitually been absent without leave during his service period from March 2023 to December 2024 at the Mapo District Facility Management Corporation and resident benefit facilities. The Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office stated in the indictment that Son Mino was absent without leave for a total of 102 days and left service without justifiable reasons. The prosecution believes that Mr. Lee, who was indicted together, may have been involved in Son's service departure process, as he is suspected of having overlooked Son's work negligence and failing to manage and supervise. According to Article 89-2 of Korea's Military Service Act, "Anyone who leaves service for more than 8 days without justifiable reasons shall be punished with imprisonment for up to 3 years." Following an investigation request from the Military Manpower Administration, the Mapo Police Station in Seoul referred both individuals to the prosecution in May of last year. The Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office, which took over the case, clarified additional unauthorized absence facts that were not included in the indictment at the time through supplementary investigations such as mobile phone forensics and GPS record checks.
