PENTAGON made its long-awaited comeback. At 6 p.m. on the 11th, the audio and music video for PENTAGON’s 10th-anniversary single “Coward” were released through various music streaming sites. “Coward” is a new song that PENTAGON is presenting for the first time in about three years. The song, for which member Kino was in charge not only of the lyrics and composition but also of the overall production, depicts a story of overcoming the fear hidden in one’s heart and gathering the courage to approach someone again in order to face a person one has long missed. This seems to symbolize their own story of returning to their fans after three years. “Coward,” which begins with a monotonous piano melody, gradually adds richer sounds as the song progresses and changes into a warm, hopeful atmosphere. The music video, which captures PENTAGON running freely, together with the analog filter, leaves an aftertaste as if watching a scene from a youth film. The sight of the PENTAGON members, who have grown while taking on new challenges in their respective places until now, gathering together and running around, alone evokes nostalgia. The lyrics, in which lyricist Kim Eana and the “genius teen writer” Baek Eunbyeol participated, further deepen the song’s sensibility. Lines such as, “It’s okay, I managed fine without you / Do you remember? You said we’d meet again someday / I survived because of that one word / No, actually, I was never really okay even once,” “May I love you again,” “Will you love me again,” and “Though I’m afraid, if this is love / Ah, I’ll gladly fall into you again” delicately portray the wavering hesitation and excitement at the moment before a reunion, and the emotional transition toward finally believing in love again. For fans who have waited for PENTAGON for three years, this will likely feel even more moving. Member Shinwon also explained the message contained in the new song “Coward,” saying, “After going through a period when, unintentionally, we could not stand before our fans as a group for a long time, this is a song that contains our resolve to overcome the feelings of excitement, as well as an indescribable tension and hesitation that made us become cowards in the process of meeting fans again, and to go meet them.”
