ILLIT painted the university festival with the sound of whistles. On October 29, ILLIT took the stage at the university festival held at Yonsei University in Seodaemun District, Seoul. That day, the members heated up the venue with a varied setlist including the title track “You’re Under Arrest” from their 5th mini album “BREAK EVEN,” released on the 26th. Among these, what drew the most attention was the performance of “You’re Under Arrest.” The light whistle sound in the intro excited the audience the moment it began. While showing an energetic, perfectly synchronized group dance, ILLIT also delivered stable live singing, presenting a highly polished stage. The audience blew magic-wand-shaped whistles prepared by the members as a surprise gift in time with the rhythm of “You’re Under Arrest,” helping create the stage together. ILLIT’s special cheer for university students also continued. They changed part of the chorus lyrics to “chippohagessso (I’ll break through job hunting),” meaning success in getting a job. They cleverly incorporated into the stage the amusing reaction on social media that that part sounds that way, and loud cheers rose from the audience. As representative songs were performed one after another, the excitement at the venue grew even more. ILLIT performed their debut song “Magnetic,” as well as “NOT CUTE ANYMORE” and “Cherish (My Love)” in succession. The live stage of “More,” a track from the 5th mini album that was performed for the first time at that day’s university festival, also received a favorable response. During the encore song “It’s Me,” the audience’s powerful singalong echoed throughout. The 5th mini album “BREAK EVEN” ranked within the top tier of major album charts in Korea and Japan on its release day. The title track “You’re Under Arrest” debuted at No. 72 on Melon’s “Top 100” immediately after release and rose rapidly to No. 5 in just four days. Furthermore, on YouTube’s “Daily Popular Music Videos” global chart, which compiles the most-viewed music videos in the world, it recorded No. 5 on October 27. The momentum of their existing songs is also tremendous. According to Spotify on the 30th, “Midnight Fiction,” a track from ILLIT’s 1st mini album “SUPER REAL ME,” had recorded a cumulative 100,034,271 streams as of the 28th. With this, ILLIT produced their ninth song to surpass 100 million streams in total. Prior to that, on the 25th, “Lucky Girl Syndrome,” a track from the 1st mini album, surpassed 200 million cumulative streams. This became the group’s fifth song to reach 200 million streams. ILLIT enjoys steady popularity on Spotify. Led by “Magnetic,” which surpassed 900 million streams in the shortest period for a K-pop group debut song, “Cherish (My Love),” “Tick-Tack,” and “NOT CUTE ANYMORE” have all been played more than 200 million times. “Do the Dance,” “jellyous,” and “It’s Me” have also exceeded 100 million, once again proving the strength of their music.
