SEVENTEEN’s Jeonghan and Joshua’s new unit JxJ will show vocals full of new charm with an album that covers a variety of genres. At 0:00 on the 14th, JxJ released the highlight medley for their 1st mini album, “DREAMSCAPE,” on HYBE LABELS’ official YouTube channel and SEVENTEEN’s SNS. A portion of the audio from the seven songs included on the new release unfolds together with a mysterious narration, creating a video that gives an immersive feeling as if traveling through an unknown world. The song drawing the attention of CARATs around the world is, above all, the title track “12 o’clock.” To a sound that modernly reinterprets 1970s–80s disco-funk, JxJ’s melancholy vocals are added, conveying mature and refined beauty. In particular, the English narration, “Between 12 o’clock and 12 o’clock, beyond day and night, I hope you can keep chasing what you dream,” and lyrics such as “It doesn’t matter whether you appear or disappear” and “I keep searching for you forever” harmonize, stirring curiosity about the song’s story. The diverse musical colors also heighten expectations for the new work. From the house genre “Like you,” to “12 o’clock,” based on dance rock, “Outside,” with an impressive rhythmic bass line, and “One plus one,” based on R&B and soul, they catch the ear. “Not Personal (JOSHUA Solo)” and “Coloring (JEONGHAN Solo)” incorporate elements of alternative rock and electro house, respectively, and “No looking back” stands out with a wild band sound. JxJ, who have been loved for their sweet vocals, are expected to show an expanded vocal range through this new release. Not only their unique beautiful voices, but also their singing that moves between rough mid-low tones and alluring falsetto further enriches the appeal of each song. The mise-en-scène of the video is also a highlight. The journey is organically connected, from the sky seen from the perspective of a person waking from sleep, to clouds rotating while drawing circles in it, to passing through colorful cities and splendid night views, as if reaching a fantasy world. Curious elements are placed throughout, such as feathers reminiscent of peacocks and a train that endlessly circulates like the myth of Ouroboros. “DREAMSCAPE,” to be released on the 19th of this month, is an album containing a dreamscape in which fantasies within the unconscious that bloom during sleep and ideals one wants to achieve in reality are constantly intertwined, colliding, and unfolding. JxJ removes the boundary between two dreams and invites listeners into a sensory ecstasy.
SEVENTEEN’s Dino surprise-released his new song “AUTOMATIC” at 6 p.m. today. He co-wrote the track, which captures the thrill of love that feels complete when two people are together. Pledis Entertainment announced it is monitoring and collecting evidence against malicious posts, false rumors, and defamatory attacks on SEVENTEEN, including content about members’ military service. It warned that it will pursue civil and criminal action, even against those who spread the posts.
SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan and Dino enlisted in the military today as army band members. S.Coups shared a photo with them on Instagram, and Woozi was also seen at the enlistment site. The two greeted fans on Weverse before enlistment, while Pledis said they will continue meeting CARAT through prepared content.
