The person in charge who had been responsible for managing WINNER’s Song Mino’s attendance has appealed. According to reports from Korean media, A, who was the manager in charge when Song Mino was serving as a social service worker, filed an appeal through a legal representative on the 6th, objecting to the first-instance verdict. Song Mino performed alternative service as a social service worker at the Mapo District Facility Management Corporation from March 2023 to December 2024, but he was suspected of violating the Military Service Act by repeatedly being absent without permission on a habitual basis. According to the prosecution, out of about 430 total attendance days, 102 days were absences without permission. On the 1st of this month, the Criminal Division 10 of the Seoul Western District Court held the sentencing date for Song Mino and A. The court pointed out that “military service is a basic duty of citizens and must be faithfully carried out, and social service workers are no exception,” and said that the nature of the offense was not light, but considering that Song Mino admitted all of his charges and is reflecting by saying that he will fulfill his military duty during the remaining service period, it sentenced Song Mino to one year in prison, suspended for two years. A, who was indicted on suspicion of aiding Song Mino’s unauthorized absences, was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years. It was reported that A, when Song Mino said he would not come to work for reasons such as oversleeping or fatigue, allowed it and then created false documents as if he had attended normally. A reportedly denied the charges, saying, “There is no fact that I conspired with Song Mino to let him leave.” On the 9th, Song Mino released a handwritten letter through his SNS. “I am truly sorry for disappointing not only those who are faithfully fulfilling their military duties, but also the fans who care for me more than anyone else. My regret has continued for a long time. I was ashamed of and hated my past choices that lacked responsibility. I will not turn away from my foolish mistakes and will reflect on them. I will faithfully carry out the remaining procedures and duties. I will keep this incident in mind and live with a more responsible attitude,” he apologized.
WINNER’s Song Mino updated social media for the first time in about 3 years and 7 months, not to announce a comeback but to post a handwritten apology over the military service evasion controversy. He apologized for causing concern, disappointing fans and those serving, and said he would fulfill remaining duties responsibly. A court recently sentenced him to 1 year in prison, suspended for 2 years, over alleged military service violations.
