The film "1977: Us in That Photograph" will have a one-week limited advance screening at Cinemart Shinjuku from Friday, November 13, 2026, and will be released nationwide from Friday, November 20, 2026, at Shimbungeiza, Uplink Kichijoji, K2, Stranger, and others. The work has been highly praised at numerous film festivals in Taiwan and abroad, including being officially invited to the 2025 "Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival," nominations at the "Paris Taiwan Film Festival," "Melbourne Taiwan Film Festival," and "Taipei Film Awards" for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Film Song, as well as the "Vancouver Taiwan Film Festival" and a nomination for the 2026 "Golden Horse Awards Outstanding Visual Effects Award." Phil Tan, who has produced many hit works such as the Netflix series "The Victims' Game" and the dramas "The World Between Us," "The Victims' Game," and "Gold Leaf," directed the film together with Frank Chen. Against the backdrop of the folk song boom that became a global movement, the film stars young Taiwanese and Korean stars in a heartbreaking love story of youths swept up by the "Zhongli Incident" that occurred in 1977. Moon Lee, who plays the heroine Xianying, who gave up advancing to higher education because of dyslexia but dreams of becoming a photographer while helping at her father's photo studio, has appeared in Netflix's "The Victims' Game" and "Summer's Lemon Grass." Jinyoung, a former member of B1A4 who played the role of Haoxi, a taekwondo instructor from Korea who comes to Zhongli and greatly influences Xianying, has also attracted attention for co-starring with Ryohei Otani in the Japanese-Korean co-production film "Shota-san's Last Business Trip" and in "You Are the Apple of My Eye." Edison Song, who drew attention in the BL drama series "HIStory," plays Hongguo, Xianying's childhood friend who secretly has feelings for her and belongs to a guitar circle at university. The three young stars from Taiwan and Korea, who combine ability and popularity, gathered for this film as a miraculous triple lead crossing borders, just like the story. On Sunday, October 4, a special screening of the "Director's Cut" version was held at Cinemart Shinjuku, and it recorded great success with the seats almost completely full. After the screening ended, audience members wiping away tears were also seen. The highly satisfying screening event ended, raising expectations for the main release. In the newly released trailer, set in Zhongli, Taiwan in 1977, Xianying, who cannot read, Hongguo, who loves songs and justice, and Haoxi, who carries a secret from the past, are shown devoting themselves to taekwondo and music. However, the story suddenly shifts from sparkling youth to being swallowed by an ominous atmosphere under martial law... Students, centered on Hongguo, are seen confronting suspicions of illegal occupation, and Xianying is seen holding a camera even in dangerous situations; Haoxi asks such Xianying, "Is a photograph more important than life?" The protagonists living through a chaotic era become caught up in the "Zhongli Incident." In addition, new stills of the triple leads Moon Lee, Jinyoung, and Edison Song have been released! Furthermore, comments from the three regarding the Japanese release have arrived. The new stills capture Xianying working at her father's photo studio, Haoxi visiting that photo studio, and Hongguo blending into the streets of Zhongli. ◆ Moon Lee / as Xianying I am very happy to be able to bring this work to everyone in Japan. This film is not only about love and youth, but also a story depicting human growth. Please watch over the growing Xianying in the theater as the story progresses. I would be happy if this becomes a work that leaves you with unforgettable memories. ◆ Jinyoung / as Haoxi It feels strange and deeply moving that it will also be released in Japan. As an original Taiwanese film, I am looking forward to how people in Japan will receive this work, and at the same time I am a little nervous. I would be happy if you empathize with the emotions and messages contained in the work and enjoy watching it. ◆ Edison Song / as Hongguo I am very much looking forward to Japanese audiences seeing it. I am very interested in what kind of selves people with different cultural backgrounds will find in this work and in the character Hongguo. I would be happy if the passion and hesitation of youth can be conveyed to you beyond language. ■ Release information "1977: Us in That Photograph" Advance limited screening: Friday, November 13, 2026 to Thursday, November 19, 2026 at Cinemart Shinjuku Nationwide release from Friday, November 20, 2026 at Shimbungeiza, K2, Stranger, and others Starring: Moon Lee, Jinyoung, Edison Song Directed by: Phil Tan, Frank Chen 2025 / Taiwan-Korea co-production / 126 minutes / Scope size / Chinese, Hakka, Korean, English / DCP / 5.1ch / Original title: 那張照片裡的我們 The Photo from 1977 / Japanese subtitles: Mayumi Kawakuri Provided and distributed by: King Records Supported by: Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, Taiwan Cultural Center (C) 2025 Hakka Public Communication Foundation, GrX Studio Co., Ltd.
