ILLIT heightened expectations for its comeback with concept photos for its new release that expressed frozen emotions. On October 12, ILLIT posted concept photos for the “QUIET” version of the group’s 5th mini album, “BREAK EVEN,” on the group’s official SNS. It depicts the cold feelings after realizing that the relationship with the person they like was not mutual and that they were the only one who thought it was love, and it forms a clear contrast with the previously released “BURNING” concept, which expressed “anger.” The members’ cold gazes in the photos overwhelm the atmosphere. In pure white outfits and with innocent makeup, they exude a calm and mysterious charm, while at the same time their expressionless faces give off a chilly aura. The concept film released together also has a strange tension. The members act calmly without showing their emotions, but the dry expressions they occasionally reveal are filled with nothing but a cold atmosphere. Added to that are subtitles that speak their true feelings, such as “I pretend everything is fine and keep smiling all the time” and “I’m really irritated today,” dramatically showing the shifting of complex emotions. The title track, “You’re Under Arrest,” once again suggests a wave of hits with its addictive beat. The pre-released challenge, notable for its lively whistle sound, and the self-produced mobile rhythm game “Break Whistle,” which uses the whistle as a motif, spread rapidly by word of mouth, and reactions have already come in saying that the melody of the new song is becoming familiar to many people’s ears. According to BELIFT LAB, the agency, “Break Whistle” was released on the 8th of this month and, in just four days, more than 40,000 people played it around the world, including in the U.S. and China, proving explosive interest in ILLIT’s new song. Before the comeback, ILLIT will spend special time with fans. On the 17th and 18th of this month, they are scheduled to hold the encore tour “ILLIT LIVE ‘PRESS START♥︎' ENCORE in KOREA” at Inspire Arena in Incheon and perform special stages. The 5th mini album “BREAK EVEN” and the full music video for the title track will be unveiled at 6 p.m. on the 26th.
